Pinconning, Michigan is located in mid-Michigan, and this city has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s when it was initially settled by lumberjacks and farmers.
Pinconning’s claim to fame began in 1882 when Louis Pinchen became the first person to file for a homestead on land there. This led to others filing as well, which soon transformed Pinconning into one of the largest agricultural centers in Bay County. In addition, the area around Pinconning produced much of its own electricity from hydroelectric generators located along local streams. As time went on, more businesses moved into the area, including several stores and factories that remained until recently.
Today, visitors can explore many sites related to Pinconning’s storied past. Of particular interest are historic buildings like The Old Post Office and Bank Building built in 1905 or Stapleton’s General Store where locals gathered for years before closing down in 2014. There are also plenty of other attractions and activities near Pinconning ranging from outdoor recreation at Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary to cultural events and festivals held throughout the year.
