Ordinary building debris is welcome. The limits come from the hazardous waste rules and from the agency that runs both receiving sites.
Neither the landfill nor the transfer station takes anything regulated as hazardous waste under federal rules. The published refusal list also rules out bulk liquids that are not in a sealed container, infectious waste, radioactive material, ash, and dry chemicals that turn hazardous when wet.
Asbestos is refused at both sites, which matters on older Santa Fe properties where it still turns up in flooring and roofing. Scrap tires, scrap metal, appliances, and electronics are all kept out of the landfill and handled separately. The transfer station also caps piece sizes, with lumber limited to four feet and concrete, brick, and block to two feet square.
The usual exclusions hold as well. Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos stay out of every container delivered.
