Most building debris and household junk loads without trouble. The limits come from City rules and from what the state landfill will take.
Hazardous material is the hard line. The City's own rules keep anything classified as hazardous waste out of its facilities entirely, so paint, solvents, fuel, automotive fluids, and similar products need their own route.
Construction debris is also walled off from the City's household services. Woonsocket's bulk collection expressly excludes construction and demolition debris, and the residential self-haul allowance excludes wood, plaster, shingles, roofing, and demolition material too. That is precisely the gap a rented container fills.
The Recycle Drop-Off Center on River Street is for Woonsocket residents only and takes recyclables rather than building debris. It no longer accepts styrofoam, and mattresses are capped at three per visit with identification checked at the gate.
Several items are cheaper or free to handle separately at the state landfill, including scrap metal, motor oil and filters, residential electronics, and appliances without refrigerant. Pulling those out before the container is loaded is usually worth the few minutes.
If one item has you guessing, ask your account manager before it goes in.
