Weston, Florida is a city that has seen many changes over its lifetime since it was first settled in 1895 by Dr. A. C. Thomas and James Ingram who came from Orange County, Virginia. Located on the edge of the Everglades about 20 miles west of Fort Lauderdale and 40 miles north of Miami, this small town of approximately 65,000 residents sits nestled between two counties: Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
The area around Weston was originally inhabited by Native Americans but settlers soon moved into the area after Dr. Thomas established his homestead there in 1895. Soon other families began arriving to settle in what would become known as “Weston” – named after Edward Westcott, one of the original settlers who had purchased land nearby in 1874. The early development of Weston included farming and citrus growing as well as some commercial fishing operations along the coast which provided jobs for local inhabitants and attracted more people to the area.
Today’s Weston remains a vibrant community with plenty of outdoor activities including biking paths, golf courses, parks, and recreational areas perfect for spending time outdoors with family and friends. With easy access to great restaurants and shopping centers, it’s no wonder why so many people have chosen to call Weston home! For those looking for a place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of big cities like Miami or Fort Lauderdale while still maintaining close proximity to all their amenities – look no further than Weston.
