The city runs the Joplin Drop-Off Recycling Center at 1310 West A Street, Joplin, MO 64801, and operates it directly. It opens Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m., Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed Monday and Sunday. The city accepts household hazardous waste there from residents of McDonald, Newton, Jasper, Barton, and Vernon counties with identification.
Be clear about its limits, though. The city states that commercial waste is not accepted there, so it is not a destination for a container load. The same goes for the city's other drop-off programs: the brush site on North Schifferdecker Avenue is residents only and refuses construction debris outright, and the compost facility on Eddy Lane takes leaves and grass only.
A container load from Joplin goes instead to the transfer station on West 7th Street, which runs 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and until noon on Saturday. That site is operated by a company rather than by the city, so it is named here by address only. The city's reduced-rate arrangement there is for Joplin residents bringing their own bulky items, capped at 2,000 pounds and requiring a sewer bill and a driver's license, and it expressly excludes commercial use.
Your account manager confirms the receiving site for your particular load, and what it will charge, before the container is delivered.
