in Birmingham
At Prime Dumpster, we provide porta potty rentals across Birmingham, Alabama, and the Jefferson and Shelby County suburbs around it. Medical district construction, warehouse and distribution work along the interstates, church and school events, football tailgates at Legion Field, and festival days at Railroad Park all keep units in rotation here.
Your total comes down to the unit types you pick, the number you need, the length of the rental, and the service schedule. Keep reading for the price ranges, the counts to plan around, the City offices that issue permits, and how soon delivery can be arranged.
Every range above assumes a standard three-day rental, which is how a weekend event is normally written up. A build that runs for months gets quoted on a four-week cycle with weekly cleaning built in, so be clear with your account manager about the real length of the job.
Rental length is the first lever, and unit type is the second. A deluxe flushing unit at a wedding at a venue off Highway 280 costs more than a standard unit on a framing crew, and a restroom trailer is a different conversation again.
Birmingham's terrain plays a role you don't see in flatter cities. Ridge-and-valley neighborhoods mean steep driveways, tight switchback streets, and lots cut into hillsides. If the truck can reach the unit easily, service is quick. If the driver has to run hose from the street up a slope, that time lands in your price.
Weather pushes the service schedule. Deep summer humidity and a packed spring event season both argue for an extra visit each week, and spring storm season can shift a delivery window. Your account manager will walk through the schedule before anything is confirmed.

A tailgate that runs six hours needs more than a two-hour ribbon cutting with the same headcount, and shade is a factor here from May through September. Start with our porta potty calculator, then let your account manager sanity-check the number against your site map.
Choose by who is using the unit. All of them sit side by side on our porta potty options page.
The Standard Porta Potty is what most Birmingham jobs call for. It comes with a toilet, a urinal, a paper holder, and hand sanitizer, and it suits crews, yard work, and small gatherings.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty enters at ground level and gives a wheelchair user a wide door, grab bars, and room to turn. Any public event should have at least one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty adds a flush and much better odor control, which guests notice at a wedding reception or a company picnic.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink holds a sink, soap, and a mirror inside the stall, a nice touch at family events and anywhere food is served.
The Solar Porta Potty lights and vents itself from a roof panel, so it works on wooded tracts, hunting leases, and sites still waiting on power.
The Handwashing Station is a separate sink with fresh water, soap, and towels. Alabama health rules expect a real handwashing setup wherever food is served, so plan one per food area.
The Restroom Trailer brings several stalls, running water, and climate control, which is what a formal wedding or a long corporate build calls for.
Give your account manager the guest count or crew size and they'll sort out the mix.
A unit on private ground needs no City permit. Your driveway, a church parking lot, a fenced job site, or a field in the county are all fine without paperwork. Public property changes that.
Streets and sidewalks: The Birmingham Department of Transportation handles permits for anything in the public right-of-way, which covers streets, sidewalks, and other transportation facilities. Its permit applications include street blockage, barricade, and public space permits, filed as PDF forms by email or dropped off on the 9th floor of City Hall between 8:00 and 5:00 on weekdays. For an event street blockage, call 205-254-2922. For a public space permit, call 205-254-2458. The fee listed on your application has to be paid before the City processes it.
Events with fire elements: If your event includes fireworks, special effects, a bonfire, or hydrant use, the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service wants its special event application at least 10 days ahead, and filing late can add fees.
Food vendors: Birmingham events fall under the Jefferson County Department of Health. The organizer's temporary food service application is due 30 days before the event, and vendor permits run $100 per unit, doubling to $200 when filed inside 14 days. The county may refuse applications that arrive less than a week out, so get that list in early.
Handwashing for food workers: Alabama's temporary food event rules ask sponsors to give food workers access to restrooms with hot and cold running water, and require a handwashing setup with warm water, soap, individual paper towels, and a bucket for the dirty water. Liquid waste can't be poured into a street, a storm drain, or onto the ground.
State highways: Several routes through the metro belong to the state, and work in that right-of-way needs an ALDOT permit through the district office. Your account manager can figure out who owns your frontage and get you to the right person.
Level ground comes first. Pick a flat, firm pad, because Birmingham's red clay gets slick in a thunderstorm and a unit set on a grade is unpleasant to use and harder to pump.
Leave the driver a real path. A service truck needs to get within roughly 25 feet of the door, with no parked cars, material stacks, or low branches in the way. On a job site, keep units within a couple hundred feet of the crew so nobody loses fifteen minutes walking.
Keep distance from food and water. Put handwashing stations beside the food area and the units farther off, and stay well back from creeks, springs, and storm inlets. Birmingham sits on a lot of karst ground, so protecting drains matters.
Weekly service is the standard. The driver pumps the tank, cleans and disinfects the interior, and restocks paper and sanitizer. Alabama's health rule simply requires pumping often enough to prevent a nuisance, and in July that often means more than once a week.
Where it goes is regulated. In Alabama, a company pumping portable toilets needs a sewage tank pumper permit from the county health department, names its disposal points on the application, and holds a state onsite wastewater license. Nothing is released on the ground. Your account manager can confirm your service days and explain the disposal route for your site.

Most Birmingham deliveries happen within 24 to 48 hours of booking. Give us three to five days when you can, and treat football Saturdays, spring festival weekends, and graduation season as book-weeks-ahead territory, because demand across the metro peaks on the same dates.
These five habits make delivery easy:
Prime Dumpster covers the city and the whole metro on the same routes, from downtown and Southside out to Homewood, Mountain Brook, Hoover, Bessemer, Trussville, Pelham, Vestavia Hills, Irondale, and Gardendale. Whether your site is in the medical district, on a hillside lot over the valley, or on a rural tract in north Shelby County, we build one delivery and service plan around it.
A standard porta potty averages $199–$349 per unit here, and an accessible unit averages $200–$300. Deluxe units run $300–$400, and restroom trailers start at $1,500. The number of units, the rental period, and the service frequency decide your total, which your account manager confirms in your free quote.
Plan one unit for every 50 guests at a four-hour event, then add 15 to 20 percent when alcohol is served. A 200-guest reception works out to four units plus a handwashing station if there's food. Any event open to the public should include at least one accessible unit.
Federal worker-safety rules give a crew of 20 or fewer one facility. Beyond 20 workers it's one toilet seat and one urinal per 40, and beyond 200 workers one of each per 50. Keep the units a short walk from the work, and tell your account manager if the crew size moves.
Weekly on a standard rental. The driver pumps the tank, washes and disinfects the inside, and restocks paper and sanitizer. Alabama's rule is that pumping happens often enough to prevent a nuisance, which in a Birmingham summer or on a large crew usually means adding a second visit.
No. A unit on your own driveway, yard, church lot, or fenced job site needs no City of Birmingham permit. Permission is required to place one on a street or sidewalk, and street events need a blockage permit from the City transportation department. Your account manager can help you confirm.
A standard unit is a narrow single stall with a toilet, urinal, and sanitizer. An accessible unit is wider, has no step at the door, and adds grab bars plus turning room for a wheelchair. Public events need accessible units in each cluster. Units used only by a construction crew are exempt.
Weekend events are quoted as a standard three-day rental, so one day and three days usually land at a similar number. A standard unit averages $199–$349, a deluxe flushing unit $300–$400, and a handwashing station $150–$250. Your account manager will confirm drop-off and pickup windows.
Tell us about your event or project and your zip code. We'll pick the units, line up the service visits around your busy days, and give you a firm number on the call.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager handles the details, from unit count and service schedule to permit contacts and delivery timing, so you can focus on your event or project.
