Porta Potty Rental in Butte, MT 59701

Prime Dumpster provides porta potty rentals throughout Butte, Montana and the surrounding Silver Bow County communities on the Continental Divide. The work splits cleanly into three streams here: construction, reclamation and utility crews on the old hillside above Uptown, a heavy summer calendar of outdoor events that earns Butte its name as Montana's festival town, and the ranch and recreation ground spreading out toward the Big Hole and the Pintler range.

Your figure depends on which model you pick, how many units you need, how long they stay out and how often we return. What follows sets out our ranges, the crew numbers Montana measures a private job site against, the permit route the City-County runs for events and streets, and realistic delivery times for a town at 5,500 feet.

Portable Toilet Rentals in Butte, Montana

Butte's calendar is the first thing that shapes a quote. The summer weeks carrying the big Uptown festivals absorb a great deal of equipment at once, and a wedding or a family reunion booked against one of those weekends is competing with a crowd of several thousand. Dates either side of the festival run are far easier to fill and cheaper to serve.

Winter is the second. A unit standing on a Butte job site in January needs a spot the plow will not bury and an approach the truck can still use, and that sometimes means relocating the unit mid-job rather than leaving it where the work started. Build a little flexibility into the plan and nothing has to be rushed.

The third is how long you keep it. A four-week block on a construction site carries one delivery and one collection, while three short bookings carry three of each. Uptown's steep streets matter too: a placement that forces a reverse up a grade doubles a service visit, so flag the access when you order.

How Many Porta Potties Do I Need in Butte, MT?

Montana's position is unusually clear once you read the state law alongside the federal rule, and it is worth setting out properly because it settles the question for every private contractor in Silver Bow County.

  • Montana writes nothing for private job sites. The federal roster of approved state plans lists 29 programs and Montana is not one of them. Montana does have its own occupational safety and health law, but its applicability provision says the standards adopted under it "apply to all public sector employers in this state and to public sector employees" and "do not apply to employment by: (a) private sector employers". The older part of the law that once held the state's own safety rules and orders has been repealed outright.
  • It does not even reach a contractor on public work. Montana's definitions say a public sector employee "does not include a contractor", so a crew working under contract for the City-County or a school district is not inside the state scheme either. The federal rule is the one that governs.
  • So the national table is the answer. The federal construction standard allows one facility for 20 workers or fewer, then one toilet seat and one urinal for each 40 workers above 20, and one of each per 50 workers above 200. It also accepts a chemical unit where no sanitary sewer reaches the site.
  • Handwashing comes with it. That same federal rule makes lavatories available at all places of employment, with only a narrow exception for a mobile crew with facilities within reach, so the sink is a standing line on a Butte crew order.
  • Events: the City-County asks the question but sets no number. The special events chapter requires an application to confirm provisions for the sanitary disposal of human waste and for handwashing or hand sanitizing stations, yet it publishes no ratio, no accessible percentage and no handwashing ratio. Our planning figure is one unit per 50 guests across about four hours, with 15 to 20 percent more where alcohol is served.
  • Accessible units. Federal design standards work out close to one accessible unit in twenty, and at least one wherever units are grouped for public use.

Our porta potty calculator gives you a first number and your account manager will confirm it against the venue and the forecast.

Which Porta Potty Is Right for Your Project in Butte, MT?

Choose on the crowd, the season and whether power is available. Our complete lineup is on the porta potty options page.

Most Butte orders start with the Standard Porta Potty, a single enclosed stall holding a toilet, a urinal, a paper holder and sanitizer.

The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty is the wide cabin with a flat entry, grab bars and turning room inside. Any Uptown festival or park event open to the public wants at least one.

The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty gives guests a flushing bowl and stronger odor control, the obvious choice for a reception or a ticketed gathering.

The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink holds the basin, soap and mirror inside the stall, which is useful on a cramped Uptown lot with no room for a second piece of equipment.

The Solar Porta Potty lights and vents itself from a roof panel, worth having on a reclamation site or a trailhead where nothing is wired.

The Handwashing Station is a freestanding sink with clean water, soap and towels. It answers the federal expectation on a staffed site and the City-County's own question about handwashing on an event application.

The Restroom Trailer arrives as a heated building with separate stalls and running water. At this elevation, with a short warm season, that heating is not a luxury.

Give your account manager the headcount and the dates and the mix is straightforward to settle.

Do I Need a Permit for a Porta Potty in Butte, MT?

On private ground, a yard, a fenced site or a ranch, a portable toilet in Butte needs no City-County permit. Public ground and public events are where the paperwork starts, and because Butte-Silver Bow is a consolidated city and county, one office handles both sides.

Events above 500 people, or on public ground, or closing a street. The special events chapter requires a permit for any event with more than five hundred anticipated participants, any event that makes use of public property including streets and parks, and any event that closes a public right of way. The City-County's own guidance says the application, a communication to the Council of Commissioners and a certificate of liability insurance must reach the Recreation and Events Coordinator no less than forty-five days before the event, on 406-497-6571. A street closure also needs a traffic control plan prepared by a licensed and insured traffic control company. There is an application fee, but the code and the City-County web page give different figures for it, so ask the coordinator rather than relying on either.

Your restroom order is part of that application. The chapter requires the applicant to confirm provisions for garbage containers and frequent disposal of waste, for the sanitary disposal of human waste, and for handwashing or hand sanitizing stations. That means the restroom plan has to be settled before the paperwork goes in, not afterwards. The application also has to be signed off by a list of officials that includes the public works director, the parks and recreation director for anything on park ground, and a Montana Department of Transportation representative where a state-maintained highway is involved. The permit itself is approved no less than fifteen days before the event.

Smaller park bookings take a different route. Events in a municipal park or mine yard that stay under five hundred people and need no street closure take a parks facility reservation instead of a special events permit, and so do weddings, reunions and picnics in a park. The code also exempts political, sporting and school events, Civic Center events, and events on private property that do not affect traffic or the public.

Streets and excavations. Work in or occupation of a public right of way runs through Public Works, which also handles in-street excavation permits, on 406-497-6200.

Who oversees the waste. The Butte-Silver Bow Environmental Health Division regulates every onsite wastewater treatment system in the county, and its program manager can be reached on 406-497-5029 if a question arises about disposal on a remote site.

Not sure which door to knock on? Your account manager will point you at the right one before you book.

Porta Potty Placement and Servicing in Butte, MT

Butte sits high, cold and steep, and all three of those shape where a unit should stand.

Choose firm, level footing with a straight approach the service truck can take without reversing up a grade. On the hillside that usually means a flat bench or a parking apron rather than a sloping yard. Keep units well back from Silver Bow Creek, the Greenway and any storm inlet, away from food service, and clear of the snow line a plow will throw. In winter, keep a path cleared to the door and to the service side.

Weekly service is our standard. Larger crews and multi-day festivals generally earn a second visit, and each visit means the tank pumped down, the bowl and floor scrubbed, the surfaces wiped and paper and sanitizer replenished.

Pumping and hauling are ours to do. The driver draws the tank into a sealed truck and takes the load to a permitted treatment plant, so none of it stays on your ground. Where a unit sits a long way out of town, tell your account manager early, because service routing matters more here than in a compact city.

How Fast Can You Get a Porta Potty in Butte, MT?

Most Butte orders can be in place inside 24 to 48 hours, and three to five days gets you the exact mix rather than the nearest substitute. The real constraint is not us, it is the forty-five day event application the City-County wants for anything large or anything on public ground.

Five habits that keep a Butte delivery clean:

  • Start the event permit six weeks out. Forty-five days is the stated filing window.
  • Have your restroom count ready first. The application asks you to confirm it.
  • Name the approach, not just the address. Uptown grades and alleys decide the truck's route.
  • Plan for snow on winter placements. A cleared path keeps service visits on schedule.
  • Fix the collection date at the order stage. Units left out past the job keep billing.

Butte, MT Porta Potty Questions

How much does a porta potty rental cost in Butte, MT?

Standard units run $199–$349, accessible units $200–$300, deluxe flushing and sink models $300–$400, solar units $500–$600, handwashing stations $150–$250, and restroom trailers from $1,500. Festival weekends, the number of service visits and how far out of town the site sits are the three things that move your total.

How many porta potties do I need for a party or event?

Butte-Silver Bow asks you to confirm sanitary provisions on its event application but publishes no ratio, so the number comes from planning. We use one unit per 50 guests over about four hours, add 15 to 20 percent where alcohol is served, and include an accessible unit for any public event. Your account manager will confirm it.

How many porta potties does a construction site need?

Montana's own safety standards apply only to public sector employers and expressly exclude private ones, so Butte job sites use the federal table. One facility covers up to 20 workers, a toilet seat and urinal are added per 40 above that, and per 50 above 200. Handwashing is required as well.

How often do porta potties get cleaned?

Weekly is the pattern most Butte orders run on. A visit covers pumping out the tank, scrubbing the bowl and floor, wiping surfaces and restocking paper and sanitizer. Festival sites and larger crews usually want a second call, and winter placements sometimes need the approach cleared first. Your account manager schedules it.

Do I need a permit to put a porta potty on my property?

No. A unit on ground you own or control in Butte needs no City-County permit. Approvals apply to public ground: a street or right of way goes through Public Works, and an event on public property or above five hundred people goes through the special events permit. Your account manager will confirm which applies.

What is the difference between a standard and an ADA porta potty?

A standard unit is one slim stall with a toilet, a urinal and sanitizer. An accessible unit is a broader cabin with a level threshold, grab bars and clear turning space inside for a wheelchair. Federal design standards come out near one accessible unit in twenty, with at least one wherever the public is served.

How much is a porta potty for a weekend?

A weekend fits inside the three-day window our ranges assume, so plan on $199–$349 for a standard unit, $300–$400 for a deluxe flushing model and $150–$250 for a handwashing station. Festival weekends book out early in Butte, so your account manager will confirm availability before pricing the drop.
