in Cedar Rapids
At Prime Dumpster, we provide porta potty rentals across Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the Linn County towns around it. Construction and flood control work along the river, road and utility crews, festivals and farmers markets downtown and in NewBo, church and school events, tailgates, and harvest work on the farms outside town all put units on the ground here.
What you pay depends on the unit type, how many you order, how long you keep them, and how often a truck comes back. Below are our ranges, the counts to plan around, the City and county steps that apply, and how to line up delivery.
Every figure above assumes a three-day rental, which is our standard period. A Saturday festival and a full Friday to Sunday run generally price the same, so there is nothing to gain by shortening your dates.
Job sites work on four-week cycles with a weekly cleaning visit included. For a build that runs a full Iowa construction season, that is the structure that keeps the cost predictable.
Season matters here. From May through October, festival weekends, weddings, and the busiest stretch of construction all pull from the same pool of units. Booking in late winter costs less than the same order placed in June.
Access is the last factor. A unit on a paved lot is quick to service. A unit on a soft riverbank site, inside a closed street, or at the back of a field takes longer every visit, and the quote follows.

Our porta potty calculator gives you a fast number. Your account manager can tune it for a long day, a hot week, or a crowd that peaks all at once.
Match the unit to the people using it and the length of the job. Every option sits on our porta potty options page.
The Standard Porta Potty answers for most jobs. Inside are a toilet, a urinal, a paper holder, and hand sanitizer, which is all a build site, a farm, or a backyard party usually needs.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty enters at ground level with a wide door, grab bars, and turning room for a wheelchair. Any event open to the public should include at least one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty adds a flush and better odor control, the usual step up for a wedding, a reception, or a company event.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink puts the sink, soap, and mirror inside, which families like and which keeps a food line moving.
The Solar Porta Potty runs its light and fan on solar power, a help on a field site or a lot with no service run yet.
The Handwashing Station is a freestanding sink with warm water, soap, and towels. Linn County accepts a gravity-fed setup, a self-contained portable unit, or a plumbed sink, and it wants the station in place before any food prep begins.
The Restroom Trailer brings several stalls, running water, and heating or cooling, which earns its keep at a big wedding or a long-running site.
Still deciding? Send the guest count or the crew size to your account manager and we will put the mix together for you.
A unit on private ground, such as a driveway, a builder's lot, or a church parking area, needs no City permit. Public ground triggers the process.
Public events: Cedar Rapids requires a special event permit any time an event or a piece of it uses public streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, public parks, or City-owned property. It also applies to private property that forms part of a venue that includes City property, such as a lot used for festival parking.
The deadline is real: the application is due at least 60 days before the event. City staff review it and send back a permit listing the conditions you must meet, insurance included. You sign off on those conditions, and the permit is not approved until you do. A permit can be pulled if the event does not follow it.
Streets and right-of-way: the City also issues a separate right-of-way permit for work in the City right-of-way, so ask about it if a unit will sit at the curb rather than on your own ground.
Who to call: the City Manager's Office handles special events at 319-286-5080, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Food at your event: each temporary food stand needs a Linn County license, and applications are due at least three days ahead. Every stand needs its own handwashing station, set up before food prep starts, and the layout sketch you file has to show where the handwashing and utensil washing go.
Not sure who controls the ground you have in mind? Your account manager can point you to the right office well before delivery.
Firm, level ground comes first. River bottom soil and spring thaw here both go soft fast, and a unit that settles unevenly is unpleasant to use and harder to service. Gravel, asphalt, or a compacted pad is the safe pick.
The truck needs a clear route. Leave a lane with nothing parked in it, watch for low limbs and tight alleys downtown, and tell us about gate codes or a closed street. Crews lose less time when a unit sits within a couple hundred feet of where they are working.
Keep units roughly 15 feet from food service and well back from the Cedar River, creeks, and storm drains. If you are drawing a layout for the county, mark the distance between the units and the food stands.
One visit a week comes with a standard rental, and the driver pumps the tank, washes the interior, and refills paper, soap, and sanitizer. Festival weekends, large crews, and humid Iowa summers usually need more.
Iowa is unusually clear about where this waste goes. A company that rents portable toilets is licensed by the state as a commercial septic tank cleaner, county environmental health enforces that licensing, and the pumper keeps five years of records showing what was pumped, how much, and where it went. State rules also say waste from a toilet unit has to be discharged to a public treatment works or another permitted plant, with that plant's approval, so it never goes to a field. Locally, the City's water pollution control facility treats sewage for Cedar Rapids and neighboring towns and already takes waste pumped from cleaned septic systems. Your account manager can confirm your service days.

Most Cedar Rapids orders land within 24 to 48 hours. A job site is easy to cover with three to five days of warning. For anything on public ground, work back from the City's 60 day event deadline, since that clock dwarfs the delivery window. For summer weekends, reserve well ahead.
Five habits that keep everything on schedule:
Prime Dumpster arranges delivery across all of Cedar Rapids, from downtown and NewBo to Czech Village, Kenwood, Cedar Hills, and the industrial corridors along Interstate 380 and Highway 30, and covers the neighboring Linn County communities just as readily, including Marion, Hiawatha, Robins, Palo, Fairfax, Ely, Center Point, Mount Vernon, and Lisbon. Whether your project sits on a downtown block or out on a gravel county road, we schedule delivery, cleaning, and pickup around your dates.
A standard unit averages $199 to $349 and an accessible unit averages $200 to $300. Deluxe models run $300 to $400, and a restroom trailer starts at $1,500. All four figures assume the standard three-day period. How many units you take, how long you hold them, and how often they are cleaned decide the final number, and the quote costs nothing.
Plan 1 unit per 50 guests over about four hours, plus 15 to 20 percent more if alcohol is served. A 150-guest reception usually means three units and a handwashing station near food. Public events should include at least one accessible unit in every group you set out.
Iowa runs its own safety program but has adopted the federal sanitation table. A crew of 20 or fewer needs one toilet. Above 20, plan one toilet and one urinal per 40 workers, and one per 50 past 200. Sites without a sanitary sewer use chemical toilets, which is what we arrange.
Weekly service is standard. Each visit pumps the tank, washes the unit, and restocks paper, soap, and sanitizer. Festival weekends, large crews, and humid summer stretches usually need two or more visits. Your account manager sets a schedule that matches your busiest days.
Usually not. A unit on your own driveway, farm, or private job site in Cedar Rapids needs no City permit. You do need a special event permit if the unit serves an event using public streets, parks, or City property, and a right-of-way permit if it sits at the curb. Your account manager can help.
The standard model is one narrow stall sized for a single person. The accessible model is roomier, sits flush with the ground, and adds grab bars plus space for a wheelchair to turn around. Public events should include roughly one accessible unit per 20, with at least one in every cluster of units.
Weekend rentals price as a standard three-day rental, so Friday through Sunday costs about what a single day would. Expect $199 to $349 for a standard unit, $300 to $400 for a deluxe flushing model, and $150 to $250 for a handwashing station. If you want the units cleaned mid-weekend, that visit is priced on its own.
Tell us about your event or project and your zip code. We will size the order, plan a cleaning rhythm that fits your busiest day, and give you a firm number on the call.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager handles the details, from unit count and service schedule to permit contacts and delivery timing, so you can focus on your event or project.
