Nearly every container load from Coralville goes to the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center at 3900 Hebl Avenue SW in Iowa City, about 12 minutes from most of the city. It is owned and run by the City of Iowa City, and its service area is the part that matters to you: it serves residential and commercial customers across Johnson County, which includes Coralville, and it cannot accept material from outside that area.
The gate is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon, and it closes on city holidays. It also closes early on windy days to keep litter under control, which is worth a phone call on a gusty afternoon before a haul. The number is 319-356-5185.
The same site runs a Hazardous Material Collection Facility, open to residents Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon, with business drop-off by appointment.
For recycling only, the city keeps its own drop-off at the Coralville Drive-In Recycling Center at 212 1st St., open weekdays 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday mornings. Trash is not accepted there, so it is the right stop for flattened cardboard rather than for a renovation load.
Your account manager confirms the destination, the weight allowance, and the disposal cost before your container is delivered.
