Most remodel and cleanout debris is fine. Minnesota and Washington County handle several materials as separate streams, and those have to stay out.
The county's own rules keep tires, lead-acid batteries, used oil, ash, tree and yard waste, and street sweepings out of mixed municipal waste. Electronics and appliances go to the county collection sites rather than into a container. The processing facility that takes this county's household waste also refuses loads with large quantities of metal, propane tanks, hot tubs, boats, engines, and anything fire-damaged.
Asbestos in identifiable quantities is named as unacceptable, as are explosives, medical waste, radioactive material, sludges, liquids, and hazardous materials of any kind, including cleaning fluids, cutting oils, paints, acids, caustics, and poisons. None of that belongs in a standard container.
Two Forest Lake rules are worth remembering. Nothing may stick out above the sides of the container or past the line of the street curb, and anything that falls or blows out is the property owner's responsibility to collect. Burning or burying debris is prohibited anywhere in the city.
If something has you guessing, ask your account manager before it goes in the container.
