Lumber, drywall, shingles, flooring, cabinets, doors, siding, and ordinary cleanout junk all load fine. The refusals come from Minnesota law and from the county's own facility rules.
Minnesota bans several everyday items from land disposal outright. Waste tires cannot be buried. Major appliances cannot go into mixed municipal waste or into a landfill at all. Televisions and monitors with a picture tube cannot go into mixed municipal waste. Yard waste, including grass, leaves, and garden debris, is kept out of landfills and sent to composting instead. Lead acid batteries have their own prohibition.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, and fuel stay out of a standard roll-off container as well. Blue Earth County does take asbestos at the landfill, but only with a call ahead and at its own rate.
Blue Earth County adds a useful demolition rule. Before a structure comes down, household garbage, hazardous waste, furniture, tires, appliances, fluorescent lighting, and mercury devices all have to come out, because a construction debris landfill is not permitted to take household trash.
Appliances, mattresses, tires, and batteries are all accepted at the county landfill for a per-item charge. Tell your account manager what is in the pile and those items get handled correctly rather than refused at the gate.
