The Standard Porta Potty covers most work. It holds a toilet, a urinal, a paper holder and hand sanitizer, which suits framing crews, landscaping jobs and backyard gatherings.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty has a wide door, a flat entry with no step, grab bars and floor room for a wheelchair to turn. Any event open to the public should include one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty flushes and holds odor down much better, which guests notice at a wedding reception or a quinceañera.

A unit on private ground, meaning your own yard, driveway, lot or fenced job site, does not need a City permit. The rules start once the unit touches public space.
Streets, sidewalks and alleys: Placement in the public right-of-way goes through the Construction Coordination Section at the Department of Municipal Development. Its permit application page carries three forms you may need, including one written for a dumpster or storage pod on the street. File at least 14 calendar days before your start date. Call the Construction Services Division at 505-924-3400 if you are not sure which form fits. Closing or blocking a lane, a sidewalk or a parking lot also means a barricade permit, a traffic control plan and insurance that names the City.
Public events: The City requires a Special Event Permit for any outdoor event that touches three or more City departments, and most street events do. The Community Events Division handles it at 505-768-3546. Your site plan has to be professionally drawn and has to show where toilets sit, along with food trucks, vendor booths, stages, first aid and your water source. Neighborhood associations near the event need notice at least 10 days out.
City parks: An event with portable restrooms is one of the conditions that triggers a Park Use Permit. The City will not supply extra restrooms for a private event and may require more of them based on the size of yours. Units have to stand on dirt or concrete, never on grass, and insurance is required once 100 people are expected.
Food at the event: Anyone selling, serving or preparing food needs a Temporary Food Establishment Permit from the City's Environmental Health Department, filed at least a week ahead. Reach that office at 505-768-2738. We put a handwashing station beside the food line as a matter of course.

Firm and level is the whole trick. The drivers need ground that will hold a loaded unit and a path wide enough for the truck, clear of low branches, gates and parked cars. Caliche and packed dirt work well here. Loose sand near an arroyo does not, and a monsoon downpour can turn a soft pad into a problem overnight.
Keep units a good walk away from food service, drinking water and storm drains. On a job site, set them close enough that nobody loses fifteen minutes crossing the lot, and put the accessible unit on a flat, firm route.
A standard rental gets one service visit a week. The driver pumps the tank, washes and sanitizes the inside, and restocks paper and sanitizer. Heavy crowds, large crews and the hottest weeks of summer are worth a second visit.
The tank does not stay in Albuquerque. Loads from portable toilets go to the Southside Water Reclamation Plant, and the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority only lets permitted haulers discharge there. Its hauled waste rules make the permit an annual one that runs out at the end of April, and the Authority can inspect a tanker or test any load. Statewide, liquid waste work falls to the New Mexico Environment Department's Onsite Wastewater Program, reachable at 505-827-2855.
