in Bristol
At Prime Dumpster, we provide porta potty rentals across Bristol, Tennessee, and the Sullivan County communities around it. Race weekends and the event traffic they bring, construction and renovation on the downtown blocks and the highway corridors, temporary campgrounds set up for visitors, church and school gatherings, and farm and utility work out through the valley all keep portable toilets working hard in this city.
What you pay depends on the models chosen, the number on site, the length of the rental, and the service pattern. Below are Bristol price ranges, the counts behind them, the city permits that bear on a street placement, and how quickly a delivery can be arranged.
Bristol's calendar does something to pricing that few cities do. A handful of weekends each year pull enormous visitor numbers into one place, and on those dates every unit in the region is committed. Booking early is not a nicety here, it is the difference between getting the order and not.
Each range above covers one unit for roughly three days, so an ordinary weekend party prices close to a single Saturday.
A construction job runs for months and moves to four-week billing, with one cleaning visit a week built into the rate. Crew size then drives the count: one unit up to twenty workers, more as the trades overlap, and a sink alongside.
One thing to settle at the start: this is Bristol, Tennessee, and the separate city across the state line runs its own government and its own rules. If your site sits on the Virginia side, the permits and contacts are different ones, and your account manager will make sure the quote names the right city before anything is scheduled.

Tennessee runs an approved state workplace safety plan covering private employers as well as state and local government staff, and its construction chapter writes no table of its own. It adopts the federal construction standards by reference, excepting only four administrative standards about scope, variances, inspections and hearings. Sanitation is not excepted, so the federal count applies on a Bristol job site, enforced by state inspectors working this corner of Tennessee from the field office at Gray.
Bristol is also one of the few places in the state where the top-end state rule can actually bite. The mass gathering law reaches an assembly of 5,000 or more people expected to continue 18 hours or longer, on public or private ground, and it then asks for separate enclosed toilets at one per 200 women and one per 300 men, with a running-water lavatory, soap and paper towels at each one, plus a license from the state health department and a bond filed with the county clerk. A large camping event over a race weekend can reach both of those thresholds together, so check the duration as well as the head count before you assume the state table is out of range.
Get a first figure from our porta potty calculator, then let your account manager work it against the layout and the hours.
Choose for the user first, then for the setting. Each one is listed on our porta potty options page.
The Standard Porta Potty is the working stall with a toilet, urinal, paper holder and sanitizer, and it is the backbone of a campground or a site order.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty is wider, with a level entry, grab bars and turning room for a wheelchair, and every public event should include one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty flushes and keeps odor down, the right pick for a guest-facing function.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink puts a basin, soap and mirror inside the stall, which catered events expect.
The Solar Porta Potty powers its light and fan from the sun, which is exactly right on a temporary campground with no service run in.
The Handwashing Station is a stand-alone sink with fresh water, soap and towels, and it belongs beside every food stall.
The Restroom Trailer holds several plumbed stalls with heating and cooling, worth the budget for hospitality areas and weddings.
Still weighing it up? Send your account manager the head count, the dates and the ground plan.
On your own yard, driveway or fenced work area in Bristol, no city permit is needed. Public ground is where this city is genuinely distinctive, because the route runs through the police department.
Streets and sidewalks: the city code prevents anyone interfering with the normal use of public streets, alleys or sidewalks for travel, including by placing obstructions on them. The proviso is the interesting part. The section does not apply to uses that the chief of police does not consider a material interference with travel and to which the chief of police has given his consent. So Bristol does publish a route, and it is a consent from the chief of police measured against a travel test rather than a form over a counter. The same proviso adds that any consent given may be revoked at any time if, in his judgment, the use has come to interfere with travel. Get the consent, get it in writing, and understand that it stays revocable while the unit is standing.
Events, rewritten in 2024: a special event permit is required before holding an event that takes over public property or runs partly on public streets, alleys or sidewalks and is likely to cause more than a momentary disruption to travel. The application goes to the director of community engagement and events, and a staff committee reviews it, made up of that director, the chief of police, the transportation and mobility planning manager, the director of operations and the fire chief, with the parks director added when the event is in a park. Organizers are told the meeting date and encouraged to attend.
The deadline test is about the activity, not about you. Bristol defines a commercial event as one intended to bring in revenue, make a profit or raise funds through entrance fees, ticket sales, sponsorships or donations, regardless of the nature of the organizer. A charity raising money is therefore commercial under that wording, and commercial applications must be filed at least 60 days before the event. Expressive activity should be filed at least five days ahead. The city also allows the application or permit fee to be waived where the organizer shows an inability to pay it.
The site drawing names us. The application must include a drawing showing proposed locations of generators, tents, stages, booths, equipment, bleachers, signs, banners, vendors, portable toilets, amplifiers, speakers, ticketing points, entries, exits and fencing. So your unit positions are a plan item reviewed by the committee, not a delivery-day decision, and the director may waive requirements that do not apply to a particular event.
Where you do not need a permit: park shelter rentals booked through parks and recreation, events inside the Slater Community Center, sporting events at designated sports fields, events produced entirely by city staff, and spontaneous expressive activity.
Temporary campgrounds: this is the welcome one. Bristol's temporary campground rules define a restroom fixture to include a temporary toilet configured as a portable unit designed to be periodically pumped empty, provided it meets city and state health requirements. Portable toilets are named as an acceptable fixture rather than tolerated as a substitute. A temporary campground is one used for camping for 14 or fewer consecutive days.
Your account manager can take the consent and the committee timetable on with you.
Level, firm ground first. On a Bristol field or a campground that usually means choosing the flattest run and laying plywood or gravel under each unit, which also stops them settling after rain.
Then the approach. The truck needs to pull within hose reach of every unit, so plan the campground rows with a service lane rather than squeezing in another pitch.
Keep units at least 15 feet from food service and well clear of ditches and storm inlets. On a build, hold them within about 200 feet of the work face but out of the public view where appearance counts.
Weekly service comes with a standard rental: the tank is pumped, the interior cleaned and disinfected, and paper and sanitizer restocked. A high-volume event weekend is a different exercise entirely and is usually serviced daily or more.
Waste leaves the site in a permitted truck. Tennessee requires a pumping contractor permit from its water resources division for removing and disposing of septage from septic tanks, holding tanks and portable toilets, and the truck must pass inspection and be granted permission to dump before the permit will issue. The state publishes a county-searchable record of permitted pumpers, so a customer can verify a servicing partner directly. Local environmental health for this county runs through the Sullivan County Regional Health Department, which is the office to ask about food and sanitation questions at an event. Your account manager will set your service days and record the destination in your file.

Most Bristol deliveries can be arranged within 24 to 48 hours outside the big weekends. Three to five days is easier. For a race weekend, a festival or a large camping event, book months rather than weeks ahead, because regional supply commits early for those dates.
Five habits that keep a Bristol booking on track:
Prime Dumpster arranges porta potty rentals throughout Bristol and the Sullivan and Washington County communities around it, including Kingsport, Blountville, Piney Flats, Bluff City, Johnson City, Jonesborough and Elizabethton. Whether the job is a downtown renovation, a temporary campground for a big weekend or a utility run out through the valley, we coordinate delivery, service and collection around your calendar.
A standard unit in Bristol averages $199–$349 and an accessible unit $200–$300. In Bristol, deluxe models come in at $300–$400, solar units at $500–$600, and restroom trailers from $1,500. Count, rental length and cleaning frequency set the total, and event weekends carry tighter service schedules. Your account manager checks each line of the Bristol quote.
Allow one unit per 50 guests over roughly four hours, adding 15 to 20 percent when alcohol is served. A 400 guest event means eight units, plus accessible models and handwashing stations beside the food. For a multi-day camping event the arithmetic changes, so your account manager builds it from the schedule.
Tennessee adopts the federal construction table, so one facility covers up to 20 workers, then one toilet seat and one urinal per 40, and one per 50 past 200. The federal rule adds a handwashing facility on the Bristol site. On a downtown Bristol renovation one unit usually serves until the trades overlap. Your account manager adjusts it.
Weekly service is the standard on an ordinary rental. Each Bristol call empties the tank, washes and disinfects the cabin, and puts paper and hand sanitizer back. A Bristol event weekend is serviced far more often, usually daily or better. Tell your account manager the schedule and the visits will match it.
No. A unit on your own yard, driveway or fenced site in Bristol needs no city permit. Public ground is different: a placement on a street or sidewalk depends on the consent of the chief of police, and that consent can be revoked. Your account manager can help you ask.
A standard Bristol unit is a single narrow cabin. An accessible unit is the wide cabin, with a flush threshold, grab rails and floor space for a chair to turn. Public events in Bristol should carry one in each cluster. A fenced site used only by workers sits outside that requirement.
An ordinary Bristol weekend prices on the same three-day basis as the ranges above, so a standard unit is $199–$349 and a deluxe flushing unit $300–$400. A handwashing station adds $150–$250. Peak event weekends price separately, and your account manager will confirm which applies.
Tell us about your event or project and your zip code. We will confirm which side of the state line you are on, size the order, name the city approval you need, and send a clear price.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager handles the details, from unit count and service schedule to permit contacts and delivery timing, so you can focus on your event or project.
