The City Manager grants the permit, and applications are filed no sooner than 364 days and no later than 30 days before your date. Forms sit with Building and Codes on the City's special event page, and City Hall can be reached at 615-893-5210. If you close a street, you supply and remove the barricades yourself.
Events on private property: This one catches people out. A gathering that isn't a usual use of the property still needs a City permit if it runs more than two days or two weekends, includes overnight camping, serves alcohol, or draws more than 250 people a day. A church field used for a weekend festival can land in that group.
Parks: A gathering in a city park that invites the public, serves food, or passes 500 people needs a Special Use Event application through Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation. That office can be reached at 615-890-5333.
Food vendors: Rutherford County is not one of Tennessee's five contract counties, so food stands are permitted by the Tennessee Department of Health through the local health department. State food rules require each stand to have a handwashing sink with water near 100 degrees, soap, and single-use towels, close to where food is handled.
