A mixed construction load from Bethlehem goes to one of the three permitted municipal waste landfills in Northampton County. The nearest is the state-permitted landfill on Applebutter Road in Lower Saucon Township, inside the city limits and licensed for an average of 1,375 tons a day. It is run by a company rather than a public authority, so we identify it by address and let your account manager confirm the routing and the material charge.
The city runs two of its own sites, and both have hard limits that matter if you are planning around them. The Theis/Cornfeld Recycling Center at 635 Illick's Mill Road takes separated glass, cans, plastics, paper, cardboard, scrap metal, textiles and large appliances, and it is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will not take electronics, paint cans, any kind of tank or sealed vessel, or wet cardboard. The Bethlehem Yard Waste Facility at 1480 Schoenersville Road takes branches, brush, hedge trimmings, garden waste and bagged leaves, Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it closes for December, February and March.
The yard waste site is for qualified city residents and property owners only. Businesses and institutions are not permitted to use it, and it refuses dual axle trailers, dump trucks, dump trailers and commercial vehicles with no exceptions, so it is not an option for a contractor's load. Both city sites answer on 610-865-7082. Your account manager will confirm where your container is headed and what the site charges before the truck is dispatched.
