Normal construction and cleanout debris is welcome. The limits come from Washington's hazardous waste rules and from what the Snohomish County transfer station will take.
Washington treats household chemicals as a separate stream. The state Department of Ecology names oil-based paint, thinner, epoxy, paint stripper, adhesives, pesticides, wood preservatives, gasoline, and lithium-ion batteries among the materials that need a take-back route rather than a trash container, and it points electronics, paint, and lights to dedicated state programs.
The county's own refusals are specific and worth knowing before you load. Hazardous and moderate risk waste is not accepted at any county facility. Motor vehicle parts are refused outright, including whole vehicles, axles, and airbags. Yard debris and clean wood have not been accepted at county sites since 2022, so brush needs its own destination.
A few items are accepted with conditions. Appliances go through as recycling only when they are mostly metal and contain no refrigerant, which rules out refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and heat pumps. Car batteries are capped at three per visit. Antifreeze is capped at ten gallons. Ash has to be cold and double-bagged. Many items are also held to an eight-foot length limit, so long beams and pipe need cutting down.
Friable asbestos is handled through the regional clean air agency, not the transfer station. If your job might involve it, flag it to your account manager early.
