The public drop-off on the Island is the Hilton Head Island Convenience Center at 26 Summit Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926, just off Dillon Road, reachable on 843-681-3731. It opens 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and it is closed on Wednesdays and on Beaufort County holidays.
It is important to be clear about what that site is for. The Convenience Center is a resident drop-off for bagged household garbage, bulky household items, glass, cans, plastics, paper, tires, batteries, oil, and appliances. Beaufort County accepts no commercial waste at its collection centers and caps vehicles at a pickup or small utility trailer, so a rented container never goes there, and a resident in a commercial truck is limited to a bag or two at a time.
Container loads from the Island go instead to a state-approved landfill on the mainland, which is the destination the county's own hauler license requires. The county keeps construction and demolition debris out of its residential service once quantities pass household scale, which is the other half of the same point.
Your account manager confirms the receiving facility for your material and the charge that applies to it before the container is delivered.
