Find Sustainable Porta Potty
in Chapel Hill
At Prime Dumpster, we provide porta potty rentals across Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and the Orange County communities beside it. Units serve campus and hospital construction around the University, infill building and remodeling in Meadowmont and Southern Village, greenway and stormwater work along Bolin Creek, and outdoor events of every size, from a street fair on Franklin Street to a neighborhood block party off Estes Drive.
What you pay follows the unit type, how many you need, how long you keep them, and how often a truck returns to service them. Below you will find our ranges, the ratio the Town itself publishes, how the permit works here, and how to get units delivered on time.
Every range is built on a three-day rental, which is how most Chapel Hill event orders arrive. A Saturday-only event and a long weekend usually price out the same, so keep the dates you want.
Construction follows a longer cycle. A campus-adjacent build or a long infill project is normally quoted in four-week blocks with cleaning included, and the weekly figure drops sharply after the first block.
Chapel Hill adds one cost that catches organizers out. The Town expects portable toilets on a multi-day event to be maintained every day, not once over the weekend, so a two-day or three-day festival carries extra service visits in the quote from the start.
Then there is reaching the unit. A drop beside a paved lot is fast both ways. A unit down a greenway path, behind a locked gate, or on a wooded lot off a narrow street costs the driver time. Your account manager will go through all of it before you commit.

Request a Quote NowChapel Hill publishes a ratio in its own event guide, so start with the Town's figure:
Our porta potty calculator gives you a starting figure, and your account manager will reconcile it with the Town ratio and your service schedule before anything is booked.
Choose around who uses the unit and how long they are there. Our porta potty options page lays the whole range out.
The Standard Porta Potty covers most orders: a single private stall holding a toilet, a urinal, a paper holder, and sanitizer.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty is wider, enters at grade with no step, and carries grab bars and chair turning space. Chapel Hill wants ten percent of event units in this form, so budget for them early.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty adds a flushing bowl and much stronger odor control, which guests notice at a reception or a graduation weekend.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink puts a sink, soap, and a mirror inside the stall, which keeps guests from crossing the site to wash up.
The Solar Porta Potty draws its light and fan from a rooftop panel. Greenway projects, wooded lots, and evening events away from power are where it fits.
The Handwashing Station is a free-standing sink with clean water, soap, and towels. Put one at every food booth and one near any working crew.
The Restroom Trailer is towable, with several private stalls, plumbed water, and climate control. Weddings, university events, and long-running sites are where it earns its cost.
Still weighing it up? Give your account manager your peak crowd or your crew size and they will build the mix.
On private ground, like your own yard, a driveway, or a fenced job site, you normally will not need a Town permit for the unit itself. Events are where Chapel Hill casts a wider net than most towns.
When an event needs a permit: The Town wants a special event permit for any outdoor event on public property, and also for an outdoor event on private property when the size or activities might affect nearby residents or businesses, when it is advertised and open to the public, or when it sits near a public street or parking lot. In practice that catches a lot of private events. The application carries a $50 non-refundable fee, which the Town may waive for a neighborhood block party.
What goes on the map: You submit a legible event map showing where the portable restrooms will stand, along with barricades, tents, structures, bounce houses, parking, first aid, emergency access lanes, and evacuation routes. Settle the unit count before you draw it.
Accessibility: Events on public property have to be accessible, and if part of the site cannot be, the Town expects you to hand attendees a map or program showing where the accessible restrooms are.
Street and sidewalk closures: Closing a Town street, sidewalk, or public parking space means filing a traffic plan covering the detour route, every sign and barricade, and the evacuation routes. Road races need a professionally engineered traffic control plan. Sidewalks have to stay clear and open unless the closure permit says otherwise, so do not plan a unit on one.
Timing: Chapel Hill does not publish a fixed deadline. The Town says review runs from a few weeks to several months depending on the event, and that organizers who do not apply well ahead may be refused. Treat that as a reason to lock your restroom plan early.
Food vendors: Food means Orange County. The Town's guide says temporary food establishment applications go to the Orange County Health Department at least 30 days before the event, and the county charges a $75 permit fee per vendor for a permit covering up to 30 days at one location. The county health line is 919-245-2360.
Not sure whether your event needs a permit at all? Your account manager can point you at the Town's event team before you book.
Where a unit stands decides how well it works across the run.
Start with firm, level ground. Chapel Hill is hilly and heavily wooded, and a unit on a slope is unpleasant to use and awkward to pump. Clay goes slick after rain, so a mat or a gravel pad is worth the trouble on a soft site.
Keep units at least 15 feet from food service and well back from Bolin and Morgan creeks, ponds, and storm inlets. On a job site, place them inside roughly 200 feet of the crew. At an event, spread them into small groups rather than one long rank, leave the sidewalk clear, and put the accessible units on flat, solid footing with a direct path from the main route.
Service frequency is a local rule here, not just good practice. The Town expects daily maintenance on any multi-day event. On a job site, weekly service is the baseline, with more for large crews and humid Piedmont summers.
North Carolina controls the pumping end closely. A company that places or empties portable toilets must hold a septage management firm permit from the state before it operates, at $845 for an operation running one pumper vehicle or portable toilets, and each service truck carries the firm name, phone number, town, and state permit number in letters at least three inches high. Disposal points are authorized in writing ahead of time. Your account manager can confirm your service schedule and the disposal point before delivery.

Most Chapel Hill porta potty orders can be on site within 24 to 48 hours. Three to five days lets us match the right mix to the job. For a spring festival, a graduation weekend, or a fall home game date, allow several weeks, because the whole Triangle books those at once.
These five habits keep a delivery smooth:
Prime Dumpster arranges porta potty delivery across Chapel Hill and the Orange, Durham, and Wake County communities nearby, including Carrboro, Hillsborough, Durham, Morrisville, Cary, Apex, Pittsboro, Mebane, Efland, and Burlington. Whether your project sits near the University, out along Weaver Dairy Road, or on a wooded lot toward Chatham County, we build the delivery, service, and collection around your dates.
A standard unit runs $199–$349 and an accessible one $200–$300. Deluxe flushing and sink models land between $300–$400, solar units between $500–$600, and restroom trailers begin at $1,500. The count, the rental length, and the service frequency all shift the total. Your account manager settles it in your free quote.
Chapel Hill passes on a county ratio of one toilet per 250 attendees at peak, with ten percent accessible. For a private gathering we plan tighter, at 1 unit per 50 guests over four hours, plus 15 to 20 percent for alcohol. Add a handwashing station beside any food service.
North Carolina applies the federal construction counts. Up to 20 workers, one facility is enough. From 21 upward you add a toilet seat and a urinal for each 40, and past 200 that becomes one of each per 50. Keep your account manager posted as crew size changes.
On a multi-day Chapel Hill event the Town expects daily maintenance. On a job site, weekly service is the baseline, with the tank emptied, the bowl and floor scrubbed, surfaces wiped, and paper and sanitizer replaced each visit. Heavy crews and humid summers justify more. Your account manager sets the schedule.
For the unit itself, usually not. The Town permit attaches to the event, not the toilet, and it can reach an outdoor event on private ground when the event is advertised, open to the public, close to a street or parking lot, or likely to affect neighbors. Your account manager can help you check.
A standard unit is one narrow stall with a toilet, a urinal, and sanitizer. The accessible model is wider, enters at grade with no step, and has grab bars plus room to turn a chair. Chapel Hill wants ten percent of event units accessible. Crew-only units are exempt.
A weekend is the usual measure, because our ranges assume a three-day rental. A standard unit falls between $199–$349 and a deluxe flushing unit between $300–$400, with handwashing stations between $150–$250. Remember that a multi-day event needs daily service. Your account manager will confirm the window and the times.
Tell us about your event or project and your zip code. We will size the order to the Town ratio, set the service visits, and give you a clear number on the call.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager handles the details, from unit count and service schedule to permit contacts and delivery timing, so you can focus on your event or project.
