Find Sustainable Porta Potty
in Wausau
Prime Dumpster rents porta potties right across Wausau, Wisconsin, the Marathon County seat where the Wisconsin River cuts through town under Rib Mountain. Construction and highway work run most of the year here, forestry and gravel jobs sit well outside the built-up area, and the events calendar stacks up on the 400 Block and in Marathon Park through the short northern summer.
Your price reflects the rental period, the unit count, the number of service visits, how far the truck travels and which model you take. Below are the Wausau figures, the street permit the city publishes and the real gate attached to it, how Prime Dumpster moves the waste, and what the booking lead times look like.
Travel distance is the cost driver that bites hardest in Marathon County. The county is large and thinly settled outside Wausau itself, and a unit on a logging road or a gravel pit north of town costs more to keep serviced than one on a downtown lot, because every visit is a long round trip. On remote jobs it is usually cheaper to take a larger unit or a second unit and stretch the interval than to pay for frequent visits down a forest road.
Season is the second driver and it is sharper here than further south. The Wausau building season is compressed, so spring and summer demand for standard units runs hot and the flushing models and trailers go early for wedding dates.
Rental length is the third. Delivery and collection are each a trip, so a short booking carries both costs over a few days while a six-month highway contract spreads them thin.

Request a Quote NowWisconsin operates no state workplace safety plan of its own, so a Wausau job site is governed by the federal worker-sanitation table. It runs in three tiers:
The second tier covers everything between twenty and two hundred workers, which is the span most highway and bridge crews in this area fall into. A handwashing facility is required on every site under the same federal rule, with a narrow exception for a mobile crew with transport to facilities nearby. It applies nationwide, so nobody should present it to you as a Wisconsin extra.
Wisconsin sets no statewide attendance ratio for events, and Wausau publishes no restroom number either. Its park rules and its block party rules are about street closure and conduct rather than sanitation. So for a 400 Block event or a Marathon Park gathering the number comes from planning rather than from a table. We work to one unit per 50 guests over roughly four hours, add fifteen to twenty percent where alcohol is served, include at least one accessible unit for anything the public can attend, and put a handwashing station wherever food is served.
Block parties have their own short route and it is quick. The Director of Public Works and Utilities may permit a temporary street detour for a block party or a similar small, short-term function not expected to draw a crowd. The application goes to the Engineering Department at least two business days before the date. Closure is limited to one city block. The applicant has to certify that every abutting resident and business was contacted and nobody objected. Anything bigger goes through the city's Special Events process.
The Standard Porta Potty does the bulk of Marathon County site work. The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty is the wide, step-free unit for public events. The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty is the model for a wedding or a guest-facing date. The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink combines both where space is short. The Solar Porta Potty earns its keep on an unlit forestry or pit site. The Handwashing Station stands separately next to food vendors.
The Restroom Trailer deserves a closer look here, and the reason is legal rather than cosmetic. Wisconsin requires a servicing business to empty a stall's tank before transporting it for any purpose, so a job that relocates its restroom turns every move into a chargeable service visit. The state rules allow an exception, which the department may grant, for a restroom permanently affixed to a trailer or an integral restroom trailer whose holding tank the manufacturer has designed and designated for transporting waste. On a site that moves along a road or between phases, a trailer can therefore cut out a run of repeat visits, and the saving is your compliance cost rather than our convenience. It is a departmental exception and not automatic, so your account manager will confirm it rather than assume it. The whole Wausau range sits on our porta potty options page.
On private ground with the owner's agreement, you will not normally need a city permit. Wausau's public ground rules begin with a flat bar and then open a door.
The bar is wide. No person may encroach upon or in any way obstruct or encumber any street, alley, sidewalk, public grounds or land dedicated to public use in the city. It also catches the owner or occupant of the adjoining premises, who may not permit an encroachment to be placed or to remain on the public way next door. The listed exceptions are architectural details, signs, awnings, canopies, vending machines in parks and permitted excavations, and a portable restroom is on none of them.
The door is the city's street privilege permit, and its wording reaches us squarely. The Director of Public Works and Utilities may grant permits to use the streets, sidewalks, public ways or other public grounds. That covers moving a building and also encumbering such public grounds with materials, equipment or structures. A portable restroom is equipment. The conditions are workable. The obstruction covers only the permitted area. It has to be barricaded and lighted so as to be in full view of the public from all directions. Where pedestrians are interrupted, the city may ask for a temporary guarded sidewalk. The permit can be revoked without notice.
The real gate is the financial side, not the paperwork. The Director decides whether a bond is needed and sets the amount at his own discretion. The applicant also files a certificate of insurance at limits set in the ordinance. Those limits run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for injury, each occurrence and property damage, with an excess umbrella policy on top. For a contractor that is routine. For a homeowner or a visiting event planner it usually ends the conversation. Planning the unit onto private ground is the better answer.
One further consequence lands on the property rather than the person. Where the owner or occupant of premises adjoining an unlawfully obstructed sidewalk does not remove the obstruction within 24 hours of being ordered to, the Board of Public Works removes it and the cost goes onto the next annual tax roll as a special charge against the abutting property, collected like any other property tax. So an unpermitted unit on a Wausau sidewalk can end up as a charge on a title. Call the City of Wausau on 715-261-6620 and your account manager will take it from there.
Set the unit on firm, level ground with a clear truck approach, well away from food and drinking water, with the door turned away from foot traffic. Keep it off the street and sidewalk unless the street privilege permit is in hand.
Wisconsin licenses the business that empties the unit, and the state rules name portable toilets directly: the sanitary license is described as a license to service private sewage systems such as privies or portable restrooms. Alongside the empty-before-moving duty, the rules require that any property serviced is left in a sanitary condition, and that a servicing business carries a spill plan with the department emergency hotline, mutual aid contacts, clean-up and reporting procedures for spills of fifty gallons or more, and the tools to render a spill harmless.
Wisconsin also lets a customer check the people doing the work, and it is worth stating accurately. The state publishes an operator certification lookup that is searchable by name or by certification number. It lists certified operators rather than business licenses, so what you can verify is the certified operator and the operator in charge that each servicing business must designate. Few states publish even that much.
Wausau's own code adds a condition-based duty worth knowing if a unit will sit anywhere near housing. The city's nuisance list includes privy vaults and garbage cans that are not fly tight. It is not a prohibition on portable toilets and it does not require a permit. It does mean a neglected unit becomes a code question in Wausau rather than simply an unpleasant one, which is another argument for the right service interval instead of the cheapest.
Weekly service is the baseline. Long summer days, large crews and event weekends justify two or three visits, and remote county sites often do better with a bigger unit on a longer interval. Your account manager will balance that with you.

Standard units for a Wausau job site are generally a day or two out. Events are tighter than the calendar suggests, because the northern season squeezes a lot of dates into a few months.
From Wausau we cover Marathon County and the country around it, including Weston, Rothschild, Schofield, Kronenwetter, Rib Mountain, Merrill, Mosinee and Athens, and we run south down the river valley and east toward Antigo.
A Wausau standard unit is priced at $199 to $349 and the accessible model at $200 to $300. Flushing and sink versions come in at $300 to $400. Forestry and pit sites take the $500 to $600 solar unit. Stations are $150 to $250, trailers open at $1,500, and your account manager sets the interval to match.
One unit per 50 guests across about four hours is the planning figure, plus fifteen to twenty percent where alcohol is served. A 400 Block event for 500 people wants ten units and a handwashing station. Neither Wisconsin nor the city publishes an event ratio.
The federal table applies, since Wisconsin runs no state plan. One facility serves a Wausau crew of twenty or fewer. Beyond that it is one toilet seat and one urinal per forty workers, falling to one per fifty above two hundred. A handwashing facility is required on every Wausau site too.
Weekly service is standard in Wausau. The driver empties the tank, washes the interior, restocks paper and sanitizer and leaves the ground clean. Remote Marathon County sites often suit a larger unit on a longer interval instead, which your account manager will work out with you.
On ground you own in Wausau, with the owner on side, normally no. The city bars encumbering any street, sidewalk or public grounds, and the duty also catches the adjoining owner. A street privilege permit can cover public ground, and your account manager will explain what it asks for.
An accessible unit is wider inside, enters at ground level with no step, and leaves turning room and grab bars for a wheelchair user. The standard unit is narrower and cheaper to rent. Public events in Wausau should include at least one accessible unit.
A weekend standard unit normally sits near the bottom of the $199 to $349 range, dropped Friday and collected Monday. A flushing model for a Wausau wedding is $300 to $400. Your account manager will quote the dates, the mix and the service visits as one figure.
Tell us about your event or project and your zip code. We will be straight with you about whether a street placement here is realistic and what a remote county site means for the service interval.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager handles the details, from unit count and service schedule to permit contacts and delivery timing, so you can focus on your event or project.
