The 10-Yard Dumpster is the right pick for dense material and for tight historic lots where a longer container simply will not fit. Brick, stone, tile, and soil all hit the weight ceiling early.
The 15-Yard Dumpster covers a bathroom gut, a garage emptied before a move, or a small deck tear-off. It is the useful middle step when a 10 looks too tight.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is the size most Franklin homeowners end up renting. A kitchen remodel, a flooring replacement, or an estate cleanout all fit, and it still works on a standard drive.

A container sitting entirely on private property in Franklin, such as your driveway or a fenced job site, needs no City permit.
The moment any part of it touches public ground, the rule changes. Franklin's code names dumpsters and roll-off containers directly and says none may be placed on a public street, right-of-way, or public property without the written consent of the city street department director, obtained through an application for a right-of-way obstruction permit. A cash bond or certified check deposit also has to be posted to cover any damage to the street or curb, and no permit runs longer than 30 days without renewal.
The City defines the right-of-way broadly. Streets, sidewalks, and even the grass strip between sidewalk and curb all count, with privately owned streets the only exception. Contractors working in Franklin need the same permit for any work within it.
There are teeth behind the rule, too. A container out of compliance gets a written notice, and if it is not put right within five days the City can remove it at the permittee's expense.

Wet latex paint is illegal to throw into a landfill here, though the state says latex can be dried out at home and then disposed of normally. Lithium batteries of any type must be recycled separately and never go in household waste.
The Williamson County Landfill will not accept rechargeable batteries at all. Hazardous waste, liquids, solvents, fuel, and asbestos are out of a standard container everywhere.
Worth knowing on the city side: Franklin's own curbside carts are closed to construction and demolition debris entirely, and the code puts removal and disposal of that material on the contractor, developer, or property owner. That is exactly the gap a roll-off container fills.
