Middletown is one of the few cities of its size that runs a drop-off taking building debris. The Middletown Recycling Center at 185 Johnson Street, Middletown, CT 06457 accepts bulk waste including demolition and construction debris, broken furniture, wood, scrap metal, large landscaping debris, freon items, and tires, alongside household recyclables.
It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. all year, plus Saturday mornings from 7 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on a seasonal pattern: every Saturday from April through June and September through November, and the first and third Saturday the rest of the year. Public Works can be reached at 860-638-4851, and it closes for the usual holidays.
The limits are real, though. Material has to be generated inside Middletown and proof is required, every load is capped at two tons, and asphalt, concrete, and clean fill are refused. The City itself points larger loads and masonry to private facilities nearby, including one on Christian Lane in Berlin and another on Triano Drive in Southington, and it notes those are listed for information rather than recommended.
That is why a container often works out better than trips to the drop-off: your debris leaves in one move, and the destination is sorted out before delivery. Your account manager confirms which facility is taking your load, and what the disposal side will cost, before the container arrives.
