Most building debris and household junk is fine. The limits come from Connecticut law and from what the receiving site will take.
Connecticut bans three things from disposal outright. The state environment department's list covers grass clippings, household electronic devices such as televisions, monitors, printers, and computers, and any lead-acid or motor vehicle battery. Paint, mattresses, mercury thermostats, gas cylinders, and tires each run through their own take-back programs rather than the trash.
Recycling is mandatory statewide for households and businesses alike, so designated recyclables have to be kept out of a trash load rather than mixed in.
The city's own transfer facility adds its refusals. It will not take household or business trash, paint, household hazardous waste, concrete, stone, brick, propane tanks, or car batteries.
The usual exclusions apply too. Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos stay out of every container we deliver. Ask your account manager about anything unusual before it goes in.
