Most construction and demolition debris from Derby heads north into Wichita. The main public option is Brooks Landfill, run by the City of Wichita at 4100 N West Street, Wichita, KS 67205. The number there is 316-350-3225. It opens Monday through Friday at 7:30 a.m., closing at 5 p.m. from March through October and 4:30 p.m. from November through February, with Saturday mornings until noon. It takes debris from construction, remodeling, repair and demolition, plus tree limbs and other vegetation.
A second construction and demolition landfill, listed by the county as CDR, operates on West 37th Street North in Wichita. Household and mixed loads go instead to one of the county's two transfer stations, one at 37th Street North and West Street and the other at 55th Street South and Hoover Road, and from there by trailer to a landfill in Harper County. Construction debris is now accepted at the transfer stations too.
Anything hazardous goes somewhere else entirely. The Sedgwick County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 801 Stillwell, Wichita, KS 67213 takes paint, used oil, gasoline, antifreeze, pesticides, cleaners, bulbs and propane free of charge from county residents. Reach it at 316-660-7458. Your account manager will confirm which site your load is going to and what that means for the quote.
