Most debris from remodeling, roofing, and cleanouts can go in your container. Wisconsin's landfill bans and the county landfill set the limits.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources bans several items from landfills. The list includes electronics, lead-acid batteries, major appliances, used oil filters, waste oil, and waste tires. Yard waste is banned too, including grass, leaves, and brush under six inches across.
Common recyclables are also on the state's list, such as cardboard, newspapers, glass bottles, cans, and number 1 and 2 plastic containers. Keep them out of your dumpster and recycle them instead.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel, and asbestos can't go in a standard dumpster. Dane County households can take household chemicals to the county's Clean Sweep program at the landfill.
