Framing, wallboard, shingles, cabinets, flooring, furniture, and household junk are all normal loads. The limits here come from Wisconsin's recycling law and from what each site will accept.
Wisconsin bans a long list of materials from landfills and incinerators across the state, in homes and businesses alike. The list covers cardboard, paper, glass, metal cans, plastic bottles and jars coded 1 and 2, electronics, lead acid batteries, major appliances, used oil and oil filters, tires, and yard waste such as grass, leaves, and brush under six inches thick.
The city facility goes further and turns away recyclables, construction and demolition material, appliances, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, motor oil, and household hazardous waste. It also stopped taking used oil, which the City now routes to local drop-off sites.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, and fuel can never go in a standard container. Superior residents can use the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District household hazardous waste facility at no cost, reachable on 218-722-3336.
Asbestos needs separate, approved handling and never belongs in a general load. When something is borderline, ask your account manager before it goes in.
