Everyday construction and cleanout debris is fine. The limits here come from Wisconsin's statewide bans, and the list is longer than most states.
Wisconsin bars a lot of material from landfills and incinerators across the whole state: every major appliance, including furnaces, boilers, water heaters, air conditioners, washers, dryers, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, and dehumidifiers. All electronics are banned too, from televisions and computers to monitors, printers, keyboards, and anything else that plugs into a computer. So are tires, lead-acid vehicle batteries, used oil filters, and waste oils.
Recyclable containers and paper are on the same statewide ban list: plastic bottles and jars, aluminum and steel cans, glass containers, corrugated cardboard, newspaper, magazines, and office paper.
Yard material is banned as well. Grass clippings, leaves, and brush under six inches in diameter cannot go to a landfill, so they need their own route rather than a spot in a mixed container.
Hazardous waste, liquids, wet paint, solvents, and fuel stay out of any standard container. Asbestos is handled site by site here, since each landfill sets its own position on it, so raise it before demolition starts.
