The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty is the wide unit with a flat entry, grab bars and turning space for a wheelchair. Any event open to the public needs at least one.

Here is the good news first. Florida says portable restrooms at a building site, or anywhere for a temporary period, do not need a state permit, as long as they meet the state rule on counts, servicing and placement. On private ground in Clermont, including your own yard, a driveway or a fenced job site, you will not normally need a City permit either.
Streets and the right-of-way: Anything placed in a city street or the public right-of-way falls under the City's right-of-way utilization permit, issued by Engineering at 685 West Montrose Street. The current form is posted on the City's construction page. The City Engineer has to be notified at least 24 hours before work begins, work is limited to 7 a.m. through 6 p.m., and any lane closure or detour needs the City Engineer's specific approval with 48 hours of notice to police, fire and emergency services. Call 352-394-7177 before you commit to a spot in the road.
Events: The City's special events application has to be in at least 60 days ahead, and no more than 24 months out. Closing a street for traffic control takes a separate written submission and City Council approval, so start early if your route touches pavement. Vendors need liability coverage naming the City, and the City is explicit that an event permit does not excuse you from any other City, county or state permit you might need.
Event paperwork for the units themselves: Florida asks the event organizer to file a signed contract with the restroom service company at least one working day before the event, listing the dates, the number of units, the service frequency and the removal date. Your account manager can get you that paperwork in good time.

Where a unit stands decides how well it holds up through a Florida week.
Choose firm, level ground. A unit on one of Clermont's slopes is unpleasant to use and harder to service, and sandy or saturated ground after a summer storm can bog a truck. Give the driver a clear lane with no low branches, tight gates or parked vehicles in the way.
Keep units at least 15 feet from food service and well clear of lakes, wells, swales and storm inlets. On a job site, set them within about 200 feet of the work. If you are running several building sites close together, Florida lets you share units between them as long as no unit is more than 300 feet from any site it serves. At an event, break them into clusters and put the accessible units on a flat, solid path.
Florida sets a servicing floor that we build the schedule around: units must be serviced at least weekly, with the inside cleaned on every visit and the tank recharged with sanitizer, and units at special events must be serviced at least daily. Every unit also has to carry the servicing company's name and phone number where you can see it.
On the waste itself, the state rule is detailed. A service company needs an annual state permit for the county where it keeps an office or storage yard, its truck must show the permit number, company name, phone and tank capacity in permanent lettering at least three inches tall, and the waste has to go to an approved treatment facility with a hauling log kept for five years. Florida sets the floor at weekly for job sites and daily for special events, and a standard rental includes that weekly visit. The driver pumps the tank, cleans the inside of the unit and recharges it with sanitizer. Extra visits also reduce the number of units required, so your account manager will often suggest them.
No state permit is needed for units at a building site or at a temporary location, and Clermont does not require one for private ground such as a yard, driveway or fenced site. A unit standing in a city street or the right-of-way does need a City permit from Engineering. Your account manager can confirm which applies.
