Habitants of Maple Grove, Minnesota, live in a city with an abundance of history. From its humble beginnings as farmland to its modern-day growth and expansion, this area has seen many changes over time. Situated near Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area, it is considered part of the Twin Cities region.
The first settlers arrived in the 1840s after being attracted by the fertile land and abundant wildlife. By 1850, there were several thriving farms along what is now Elm Creek Boulevard, which was then known as “the road to Osseo”. The name ‘Maple Grove’ came about when a grove of maple trees was planted at the intersection of Bass Lake Road and Weaver Lake Road. Over the years, Maple Grove has grown into one of the most populous cities in Hennepin County while still maintaining its rural charm. In recent decades it has become increasingly suburbanized due to its proximity to major metropolitan areas like Minneapolis-St. Paul and Bloomington; however some areas retain their rustic character from earlier times such as Fish Lake Regional Park located on the east side of town.
