The Standard Porta Potty is what most crews and backyard projects get: a seat, a urinal, a paper holder, and sanitizer.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty has a flat threshold, a wide door, grab bars, and enough floor for a wheelchair to turn. Put one in whenever the public is invited.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty has a foot-pump flush and a fresh-water bowl, so it suits a reception or a graduation party far better.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink adds a sink, soap, and mirror behind the same door, which families and food events appreciate.

For a unit on your own driveway, yard, or job site lot, no City permit covers the unit itself. What does catch people here is the City's event rule, which reaches private property too.
Streets, alleys, and boulevards: Brooklyn Center requires that any individual or group hold a permit to use the public right-of-way. That covers anything set in the street or on a boulevard, and applications now run through the City's online permitting system. The Engineering Division on Shingle Creek Parkway answers at 763-569-3340.
Events, even on private land: The City's special event permit applies to a gathering held partly outdoors on City property or private property once any one of these is true: 50 or more people attend, the right-of-way gets blocked, you ask for City services, or you use amplified sound. File with the City Clerk at least 45 days ahead. A recurring event such as a farmers market needs only one permit for the year.
Food vendors: A stand selling food at your event is licensed by Hennepin County Public Health as a special event food stand, good for up to ten days. Apply at least 10 days ahead to dodge the late fee. Each stand must have handwashing with running water, soap, paper towels, a wastewater catch, and a trash container, which is why a handwashing station usually goes in beside the units.
County parks and school fields: Those have their own gatekeepers. Ask whoever books the field before you set a delivery date.

A little thought about placement saves you money all season.
Put units on firm, level ground. A gravel shoulder or a paved pad beats soft turf, especially in April when the frost comes out and everything softens. Leave the driver a straight approach and keep cars from boxing the unit in.
Hold units at least 15 feet away from food service, and keep them clear of storm drains, creek banks, and wells. On a job site, stay within 200 feet of the work so nobody loses half an hour walking.
One service visit a week is the normal rhythm. The driver pumps the tank, scrubs and disinfects the inside, and restocks paper and sanitizer. Hot weeks and heavy crowds call for more.
Minnesota treats what comes out of a portable toilet as septage, and only a state-licensed maintenance business may pump it. Across the Twin Cities a hauler also needs a Metropolitan Council liquid waste permit, and the Council accepts portable toilet waste at every one of its receiving sites as long as trash has been taken out of the tank first.
