Blaine, Minnesota offers the perfect balance of urban amenities with suburban comfort, making it an ideal spot for families and individuals alike. Located in Anoka County, Blaine is only 15 miles north of Minneapolis and St. Paul, giving residents easy access to major cities while also having plenty of room to roam around in their own backyards.
The history of Blaine dates back to 1857 when three families settled at what was then called Hamilton Station. Over time more settlers moved into the area and by 1890 the population had grown enough that they could incorporate as a village. The town eventually changed its name from Hamilton Station to “Blain” after one of the original settlers’ last names. It wasn’t until 1914 that the town officially became known as “Blaine”—a combination of two words: blain meaning small lake or pond and eau meaning water in French—reflecting its proximity to numerous lakes in the area.
Today, Blaine is still growing steadily as new businesses move into town bringing jobs and other economic opportunities along with them. In addition to being close to some great shopping centers such as Northtown Mall and Lakeside Shopping Center, there are also many parks that offer recreation areas for kids and adults alike; including a golf course, walking trails, biking paths, playgrounds, fishing ponds, and more. With a variety of housing options available ranging from single-family homes to condos and apartments, there truly is something for everyone in this vibrant community.
