Most construction and household debris is fine to load. The limits come from Alabama's landfill rules and from what the Coffee County Landfill will accept.
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management must approve certain special wastes, such as oil-soaked soil or sludge, before the landfill will take them. The county landfill also refuses tires, used oil and oil filters, car batteries, lithium batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and medical waste.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, and fuel can't go in a standard dumpster either. Asbestos is only accepted when it's wet and double-bagged, so it needs its own plan.
For oil, batteries, and tires, the City's Public Works Shop at 529 Glover Avenue takes them from residents, with a fee for tires.
