Vestavia Hills sits in two counties, so a load can travel in either of two directions.
Jefferson County lists the public sites that take household debris from this area. Mt. Olive Landfill, at 101 Barber Blvd, Gardendale, AL 35071, runs Monday through Friday, 4:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 7 a.m. to noon. Johns Transfer Station, at 5125 Bessemer Johns Road in Bessemer, is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 7 a.m. to noon. It takes no cash and refuses paint, batteries, and tires.
Loads from the Shelby County side of the city can go to the Shelby County Highway 70 Landfill instead, at 401 Landfill Road, Columbiana, AL 35051. The county runs it for both household and construction debris, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It closes Sundays and major holidays. Every load that arrives there has to be covered.
Which site fits depends on your address and what you loaded. Your account manager will confirm the destination and walk you through the fees before your container shows up.
