Griffin is unusual in running both of its own disposal facilities, and the City code sends collected waste to them. Construction and demolition waste, asbestos and bulky waste generated in Griffin may only be accepted at a City facility or at another facility the City designates.
Construction and demolition debris goes to the Shoal Creek Landfill at 575 Shoal Creek Rd., Griffin, GA 30223, on 770-228-0430. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:20 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. The City's landfill page confirms it accepts residential yard waste and construction and demolition debris. Every vehicle arriving has to stop at the designated checkpoint for inspection and weighing, be weighed again on the way out, and have its load completely secured, tarped and covered. Payment is made before the vehicle departs unless credit arrangements are already in place.
Bulky household items, recyclables and electronics go to the City's transfer station, which it calls the Regional Recycling Center, at 1515 Industrial Dr., Griffin, GA 30223, on 770-233-4119, open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:45 pm. The transfer station page lists furniture, carpet and padding, mattresses, bulk cardboard and plastics, recyclable metal and electronic waste among what it takes, and it is clear that construction debris and yard waste are not accepted there.
Acid, explosives, flammable liquids, corrosive material, lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, hazardous waste, medical waste and toxic waste are all refused at the transfer station.
The City will not collect building material, dirt, rock, discarded furniture or appliances from private property, and it will not haul vegetation generated by commercial tree crews, landscapers or building contractors. That is exactly the gap a container fills. Your account manager confirms which City facility your load is going to and how the charge is worked out before delivery.
