Ellijay has one local twist that shows up in almost every quote, so it is worth knowing before you read the rest.

Material drives the rest. Shingles, tile and wet debris are heavy, and weight is what the landfill bills. Ellijay's twist is that clean concrete and rock are not the cheap load they are elsewhere, because Gilmer County does not accept inert material of that kind at its landfill. The 10-Yard Dumpster is the smallest we offer. It suits a bathroom redo, a shed teardown, or a single room of debris. It is also the size to ask about for dense material, since weight runs out long before space does.
The 15-Yard Dumpster fits the middle jobs: a garage cleanout, old flooring, or a small roof tear-off on a cabin. You get real room without stepping up in price twice.
The 20-Yard Dumpster is the one most Ellijay homeowners end up with. It handles a full house cleanout or a remodel that touches several rooms at once.
The 30-Yard Dumpster is built for bigger work, like a new build, an addition, or a teardown that makes a lot of mixed debris. Rental cabins being gutted usually land here.

In most Georgia cities a container on your own driveway or job site needs no permit, and only a street placement does. Ellijay is stricter than that, so do not assume the usual rule applies.
The City of Ellijay requires a permit before a dumpster or other large trash container is placed or used anywhere inside the city limits. The application goes to the mayor or city manager, or to whoever they name. The city code writes the permit broadly and does not publish a separate rule for a short-term container, so the only office that can tell you how it reads on your job is the city.
Street placement is a second question. City rules make it unlawful to block any street, alley, sidewalk or other public way unless the city has allowed it, and any such permit is applied for in writing with the city clerk.

Staff and direct lines are listed on the city's departments page, and City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No fee is published for either permit. If your job sits outside the city limits on a county road, your account manager can point you to the right Gilmer County contact instead.
Normal house and jobsite debris is fine. The limits come from Georgia law and from what Gilmer County turns away.
Georgia bans yard trimmings from lined landfills statewide. Leaves, grass, brush, shrub and tree prunings and old Christmas trees have to be kept separate and composted or chipped. Land-clearing material like whole trees and stumps is treated differently under that rule, which is worth sorting out before a lot gets cleared.
Gilmer County goes further than the state. The county does not accept stumps, brush, yard trimmings, concrete or rock at its landfill at all. If your job makes a pile of broken concrete, block or stone, say so when you book so it can be routed somewhere that will take it.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel and asbestos stay out of every container, and the county accepts no hazardous or infectious medical waste. Tires, appliances and electronics should be kept separate and mentioned up front.
One more local rule: the city does not allow waste from outside the city limits to be dropped into a container sitting inside them. If you are hauling from a second property, tell your account manager so the right container goes to the right address.

The City of Ellijay does not collect construction, demolition or landscaping debris at the curb. Its code puts that material on the owner or the contractor who makes it, and sends it to county-run disposal. That is exactly the gap a roll-off container fills.
Most Ellijay loads go to the Gilmer County Tower Road Landfill, run by Gilmer County Solid Waste and Recycling at 456 Tower Road, Ellijay, GA 30540. The landfill is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and closed Sunday. Its published line is 706-635-7696.
Read the county's solid waste page carefully if you plan to self-haul anything. The Tower Road convenience center shares that same address but takes household garbage and recycling only, and every other county convenience center refuses bulk items and construction debris too. The landfill entrance is the one that takes the material.
Gilmer County also limits its landfill to waste generated inside the county. Your account manager will confirm which facility is receiving your load and what it means for your bill before the truck rolls.
