A container on your own driveway or job site in Whitehall needs no separate City permit. Containers do not appear on the City's published list of permits, and Whitehall's right-of-way rules are written for utility providers putting equipment in the street rather than for a temporary container.
City code does set one condition worth knowing. Building materials and waste may not be allowed to pile up on a property, with an exception for material accumulated during construction, remodeling, or repair work where a building permit for that project is already open, and a further exception for waste held in covered containers for collection by a licensed hauler. In plain terms, a container on an active permitted job is squarely within the rules.
Contractors have their own obligation here. Whitehall requires every contractor working in the city to hold a City registration, and the code bars unregistered contractors from working inside the city limits. That is a question for your builder rather than for the container, but it catches people out.
For anything to do with placement, the street, or an open permit, call the City of Whitehall at 360 S Yearling Road on 614-338-3100, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or check the Building Department page. Your account manager can help you confirm the right contact before the container is scheduled.
