The county landfill publishes its refusals, and that list is effectively the rule for every Dublin container.
Out entirely: asbestos, hazardous waste, explosive and ordnance material, radioactive material, infectious or pathological waste, and chemotherapeutic waste. Liquid waste is refused too, including motor oil and water-based paint, although water-based paint may be dried out first and then disposed of.
Also refused: appliances containing Freon, lead acid batteries, whole or shredded tires, televisions, computers and other electronic waste, and gas cylinders unless they are empty and delivered on their own. Drums, barrels and buckets are refused unless the lids have been removed and the interiors cleaned.
Yard waste is on the refusal list as well, so leaves, grass, shrubs and tree material need their own route rather than a corner of your container.
Motor vehicles and major vehicle parts are out, which catches frames, transmissions, rear ends, springs and fenders along with farm machinery and marine vessels.
If you are holding something that is not clearly on either side of that line, ask your account manager before it goes in. A refused item at the gate costs far more time than a phone call.
