What Changes the Price in Dayton, OH

Here's what moves the price of a dumpster in Dayton.

Size is the starting point. Larger containers cost more, but a container that fits the whole job saves you from a second haul.

Debris type is the next factor. Montgomery County prices construction and demolition debris higher than household trash, so a remodel load costs more to dispose of than a cleanout of old furniture.

The county sets those disposal fees. Montgomery County's posted rates for its transfer facility list $30.50 per ton for trash from inside the county, plus state and district fees of $4.75 and $3.65 per ton. Construction and demolition debris is listed at $60 per ton plus fees.

Weight ties it together. Plaster, shingles, and concrete add tons quickly, so the heavier your debris, the more the disposal side of your bill grows.

Where the container sits can add a step. A dumpster on a City street or sidewalk needs a permit, which we cover below.

What Size Dumpster Do I Need in Dayton, OH?

Pick your size based on how much debris you have and how heavy it is. Prime Dumpster rents 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 yard containers.

The 10-Yard Dumpster fits a bathroom tear-out, a small cleanout, or a load of plaster, brick, or concrete. Heavy debris reaches the weight limit before it reaches the top.

The 15-Yard Dumpster works for a basement or garage cleanout, a flooring project, or a small roof.

The 20-Yard Dumpster is the size many Dayton homeowners and landlords choose for a whole-house cleanout or a multi-room rehab.

The 30-Yard Dumpster covers large renovations, additions, and new construction with a lot of mixed debris.

The 40-Yard Dumpster is our largest, sized for commercial projects, demolition, and big property cleanouts.

If you're torn between two sizes, your account manager can help you decide based on what you're tearing out.

Do I Need a Permit for a Dumpster in Dayton, OH?

A dumpster on private property, such as your driveway or a paved lot, generally doesn't need a City permit in Dayton. A container placed in a street, alley, sidewalk, or other public right of way does.

Dayton's Division of Civil Engineering issues street privilege permits for sidewalk and street closures and for any special use of the public right of way. The division's Civil Engineering page says customary fees apply, and street closures must meet state standards.

The division works out of City Hall, Fifth Floor, 101 W. Third St., and you can reach it at 937-333-3840. Call before you book a street placement and ask what the permit needs for your address, how long approval takes, and what it will cost.

Your account manager can help you find the right City contact and plan delivery after the permit is in hand.

What Can You Not Put in a Dumpster in Dayton, OH?

Most construction and cleanout debris is welcome in your container. Ohio law and the county's own programs cover the rest.

Ohio law keeps lead-acid batteries, like car batteries, out of landfills. Stores that sell them have to take your old one back when you buy a new one.

Hazardous waste, liquids, paint thinners, solvents, fuel, and asbestos aren't allowed in a standard dumpster either. Montgomery County residents can bring household chemicals, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane tanks, fluorescent lights, and batteries to the county's free household hazardous waste program at the transfer facility. The county also says most latex paint isn't hazardous, so a small amount can be dried out and thrown away.

Tires and appliances have their own route. County residents can drop off up to 10 car or truck tires a year at no charge, and appliances with Freon are handled separately at the facility. Keep them out of your container and mention them when you book.

Your account manager can check any item you're unsure about.

What Can I Throw in a Dumpster Rental?

Where Your Waste Goes

Montgomery County's Solid Waste District runs the Montgomery County Transfer and Recycling Facility at 1001 Encrete Lane, Moraine, OH 45439, just south of Dayton. The county's solid waste page lists hours of Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the facility closed on Sundays. The customer service line is 937-225-4999.

Since January 2026, every truck and trailer load has to be fully tarped before it enters the facility. Loads are weighed, and the county bills by the ton.

The facility also holds the county's household hazardous waste collection and appliance drop-offs, so it's a useful stop for the items that can't go in your dumpster. Your account manager will confirm where your container is headed and walk you through the disposal charges before delivery.

How Fast Can You Get a Dumpster in Dayton, OH?

Most dumpster rentals in Dayton can be scheduled within one to two business days, with delivery in a 24 to 48 hour window. If the container needs to go in the street, leave extra time for the City permit.

A few tips for a smooth delivery:

  • Give us the details. Tell us what you're throwing out and roughly how much, so the size and weight allowance fit.
  • Call early. Morning calls have the best chance at next-day delivery.
  • Make a clear path. Move vehicles, and check the drop spot for low wires and hanging branches.
  • Sort out the street first. If the container can't stay on your property, contact Civil Engineering before choosing a date.
  • Line up pickup. Tell your account manager when you're finished so the container is hauled away promptly.

The county facility is closed on Sundays and shuts at 3 p.m. on Saturdays, so a container filled over the weekend usually goes out on Monday.

Dayton, OH Dumpster Questions

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Dayton, OH?

Dumpster rentals in Dayton range from $399 to $499 for a 10-yard container up to $699 to $899 for a 40-yard container, based on a five-day rental. Montgomery County charges more per ton for construction debris than for household trash, so your material matters. Your account manager confirms tonnage and overage rates.

Is it cheaper to rent a dumpster or go to the dump?

For most projects, renting is cheaper. Every trip to the county transfer facility means a charge by the ton, fuel, and time, and every load has to be tarped. A dumpster sits at your property while you work, and we haul it all away at once.

Will a couch fit in a 10-yard dumpster?

Yes. A three-seat couch takes up roughly a fifth of a 10-yard dumpster, so there's room left for a mattress, a table, and bags of clutter. Furniture is bulky but not heavy, which means space runs out before weight does.

When renting a dumpster, what can you not put in it?

Keep hazardous waste, liquids, solvents, fuel, asbestos, and car batteries out of your Dayton dumpster. Ohio bans lead-acid batteries from landfills. Tires and Freon appliances have separate drop-off programs through the county, so tell us about them when you book.

What is the cheapest dumpster I can rent in Dayton, OH?

The 10-yard container has the lowest price, at $399 to $499. The final cost still depends on weight, since the county charges by the ton. A small container packed with plaster or shingles can pass its limit quickly, so ask about the overage rate before loading.

How much is it to rent a dumpster for 3 days?

A three-day rental usually costs the same as our five-day rental. We price by the job, not by the day, so keeping it fewer days rarely changes the total. Ask your account manager how much weight is included and what an extra day costs.

What can you legally put in a dumpster?

Most debris from building and cleanout projects is allowed, including lumber, drywall, plaster, roofing, flooring, cabinets, and furniture. Concrete and brick are fine too, but they're heavy, so a separate load can make sense. Your account manager can confirm anything unusual before you load it.
