Nestled in the rolling hills of south-central New York lies Binghamton – a city with a vibrant history, an abundance of sites to explore, and a culture that will astound. Truly, Binghamton is nothing short of remarkable!
Binghamton was first established as part of Chenango County in 1806. It holds deep ties to many historical figures, such as William Bingham who played a significant role in funding the Erie Canal – which opened up waterways for trade between Albany and Buffalo. As one of the most prominent cities at the time, it quickly became known as “The Valley City” due to its location along the Susquehanna River valley.
Today, visitors can still experience much of what made Binghamton great back then. From its rich arts culture including galleries and performance venues like The Forum Theater or Roberson Museum & Science Center; outdoor activities from kayaking on Otsiningo Park to hiking trails at Vestal Rail Trail; or educational experiences around SUNY Broome Community College campus – there’s something for everyone here! Plus, don’t forget about all the delicious restaurants featuring classic comfort food dishes like chicken riggies (a local favorite). With so much to offer, you’ll never run out of things to do when visiting this unique city.
