Streets, sidewalks and parking lanes: The Central Permit Office handles permits for work, parking, and other activity in the public right-of-way. Call 315-448-8600 before you plan a drop at the curb. Anything placed in that space, even for a short stretch, falls under the City's encroachment permit, which carries a $100 non-refundable application fee and can only be filed by the owner of the property next to it. Events: Anything on a City street, sidewalk, park, or trail needs the Office of Special Events at 412 Spencer Street. The application runs $150 and is due 60 days ahead. Food vendors: Anyone serving food needs a temporary permit from the Onondaga County Health Department. Its food protection team wants applications at least 10 days before the first day of service and charges a late fee after that. The office is in the John H. State roads: Some routes through the area belong to the state, not the City. Work or placement in that space needs a highway work permit from the state transportation department.
