Prime Dumpster arranges porta potty rentals across Boulder, Colorado, the county seat below the Flatirons where the orders run from residential construction and remodeling through the older central neighborhoods to laboratory and campus projects, city street and path work, and an unusually dense calendar of events on the Pearl Street mall, the university grounds and the open space trailheads.
Boulder regulates more than almost any city in the state and still says nothing about portable restrooms by name, which we established by reading its code rather than assuming it. What it does regulate is encroachment on public ground, and that is where a placement here actually lives. Below are the ranges, the scope language that matters, the crew figures, and the delivery picture.
Whether the unit stands on private ground or in the public right-of-way is the question that moves a Boulder quote, because the second case needs the city's written permission first and that has a lead time attached.
Unit count follows the crew or the guest list, with the federal table setting the floor on a job site.
Rental length does the usual work. Central Boulder remodels run for weeks under a careful review process, and campus and laboratory projects run for months, so a longer commitment lowers the daily figure.
Access is genuinely hard here. The central grid has narrow alleys, the hill neighborhoods are steep, and trailhead and mall placements have restricted service windows. Your account manager prices the approach too.

Request a Quote NowBoulder sets no number. We read its licensing, health and streets titles in full and found no count, no ratio and no event chart, so the figure comes from the federal table and from planning.
Run your numbers through the porta potty calculator and have your account manager confirm them against the placement you have in mind.
Choose with the public ground question settled first, because a unit you may have to describe in a permission request is a unit worth getting right. Every model sits on our porta potty options page.
The Standard Porta Potty is one enclosed stall with toilet, urinal, paper holder and sanitizer, and it is the workhorse of a Boulder construction order.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty gives a wider cabin, level threshold, grab bars and turning space, and any Boulder event open to the public needs one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty adds a flushing bowl and stronger odor control, which is the right pick for a mall event or an outdoor wedding.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink keeps the basin, soap and mirror inside the cabin, often the only option that fits on a central Boulder lot.
The Solar Porta Potty runs its light and vent from a roof panel, useful at a trailhead or on open space with no service connected.
The Handwashing Station is the freestanding sink with clean water, soap and towels, and it is what meets the federal washing requirement on a staffed site.
The Restroom Trailer is the heated, plumbed building with separate stalls, suited to a Boulder wedding or a long campus project with daily staff.
Tell your account manager where the unit will stand and what the headcount is, and the mix follows.
Boulder has no portable restroom permit, and we can say that with some confidence because we went looking properly. The useful answer is about which of its existing instruments reaches a placed unit, and the scope language does the deciding.
On private ground, serving your own project, normally nothing is needed. No Boulder provision requires a permit for a unit standing on your own lot for your own work. That is the common case and it is the straightforward one.
On public ground, the encroachment chapter is the instrument. Boulder defines an encroachment as a private improvement, structure or obstruction extending into or located within, upon, above or under any public right-of-way or public easement, and then provides that no person shall erect or maintain any building, structure, fence, barrier, post, landscaping, obstruction or other encroachment within, under, above or upon any public right-of-way, path, alley or public easement without first obtaining permission from the City.
Read the scope noun carefully, because it cuts two ways. The chapter's own definition of a structure requires a fixed location, and a unit set down for two weeks and taken away again is arguably not that. But the definition of an encroachment also covers an obstruction and a private improvement merely located within the right-of-way, and a restroom unit standing on a Boulder sidewalk or alley plausibly falls inside those words. We are not going to claim the code names portable toilets, because it does not. The practical course is that written permission from the City is the route for public ground, and it should be in hand before the delivery.
The consequence of getting that wrong is named in the code. Boulder provides that an encroachment placed or maintained in the public right-of-way contrary to the chapter constitutes a public nuisance, which the City or even a resident may act to have removed or abated. That is a stronger consequence than a fee, and it is a good reason to settle the permission first.
One Boulder permit that does not apply, which is worth knowing. The city's street, sidewalk and public property use permit sounds like the obvious instrument and is not. Its own scope is placing merchandise or other things upon public property for sale or for the solicitation of orders. A restroom unit is not placed for sale, so that permit is not the one you need, and nobody should be sent to apply for it.
The county above the city licenses the haulers, and it reaches the city. Boulder County licenses all hauling companies operating in the county that collect, transport or dispose of discarded materials. The scope detail is the interesting part and it runs the opposite way to the usual county pattern: it is the county's service requirements, not its licensing requirement, that are confined to the unincorporated area, so the licensing duty reaches the incorporated county seat rather than stopping at the city line. The city of Boulder is named on the county's own reporting list. It costs fifty dollars a year for up to three vehicles and ten dollars per vehicle beyond that, and it binds the servicing company rather than you.
And the wastewater layer belongs to the county too. The state health department's on-site wastewater page explains that on-site systems, which it calls septic systems, are governed by Regulation 43, that permitting for flows of two thousand gallons a day or less is carried out by local counties, and that every local public health agency in Colorado has adopted rules at least as stringent as the state regulation. The regulation text itself was not obtainable at source, so no claim is made here about how the state classifies the contents of a portable unit.
Your account manager will settle the public ground question and the servicing arrangement before anything is placed.
Boulder is a tight city against a mountain front, and placement is mostly a problem of width and gradient.
Keep the unit on private ground wherever you can, because that avoids the encroachment question entirely. Set it on firm, level ground with a straight approach for the service vehicle. In the central grid, measure the alley and look up for wires and low branches. On the hill, expect gradient and anchor the unit. At a trailhead or on the mall, confirm the service window and who holds the access, because those are often restricted. Keep back from storm inlets running to Boulder Creek, and on a staffed site stand the sink beside the stall.
Weekly service is the standard pattern, with a second visit for a larger crew, hot weather or a multi-day event. A visit means the tank drawn down, the bowl and floor scrubbed, the surfaces wiped and the paper and sanitizer made up.
Collection is arranged through a permitted local partner, and in this county that partner should hold the county hauler license. Your account manager will confirm it alongside the schedule.

Most Boulder orders on private ground can be standing inside twenty four to forty eight hours, and three to five days secures a particular mix. Anything in the right-of-way depends on the city's written permission, so start that first.
Five habits that keep a Boulder delivery clean:
Prime Dumpster serves all of Boulder, from the central grid and University Hill out to Gunbarrel and the open space edges, and reaches the cities across the county and into the north metro. Every figure below is a straight line measure from the Boulder zip code: Louisville 9 miles southeast, Lafayette 10 east, Longmont 13 northeast, Broomfield 14 southeast, Erie 14 east and Westminster 18 southeast. Most of those sit inside Boulder County alongside the city, which keeps a licensed service run short.
In Boulder a standard unit runs $199–$349, an accessible unit $200–$300, the deluxe flushing and sink models $300–$400, a solar unit $500–$600, a handwashing station $150–$250, and a restroom trailer from $1,500. A placement in the public right-of-way needs the city's written permission, which your account manager will factor into the schedule.
Boulder publishes no guest ratio, and we checked its licensing, health and streets titles to be sure. Plan about one unit per fifty guests across four hours, add fifteen to twenty percent where alcohol is served, and include an accessible unit for anything open to the public. Your account manager will adjust for your venue.
Colorado operates no plan of its own, so the federal standard governs a private Boulder site. One facility covers a crew of twenty or fewer, then a toilet seat and a urinal per forty workers above twenty, and one of each per fifty above two hundred. No Boulder provision sets a different figure or forbids a chemical unit.
Weekly as standard, twice weekly for larger Boulder crews, hot spells or multi-day events. A visit means the tank drawn down, the bowl and floor scrubbed, the surfaces wiped and the consumables made up. In Boulder County the hauling company should hold the county license, which your account manager confirms.
On your own Boulder property, serving your own project, normally not. On a sidewalk, alley, path or public easement you need the city's written permission under its encroachment rules, and an encroachment kept there without it is treated as a public nuisance that can be ordered removed.
A standard Boulder unit is a single narrow stall with a toilet, a urinal and sanitizer. The accessible model is a wider cabin with a level threshold, grab bars and room to turn a wheelchair. Federal design standards put five percent of a clustered set in the accessible class and require the international symbol on it.
Two days sits inside the short window these ranges assume, so a standard unit is $199–$349, a deluxe flushing model $300–$400 and a handwashing station $150–$250. For a Boulder weekend event on public ground, secure the city's permission well before the date.
Tell us about your event or project and your zip code. We will work out whether the public right-of-way is involved, size the order against the federal crew table, and set up servicing with a partner holding the county license.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager stays with it from there, covering the unit count, the permission, the service interval and the delivery window.
