The Standard Porta Potty is the everyday unit, with a toilet, urinal, paper holder, and sanitizer. It covers crews, yard work, and smaller gatherings.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty enters at ground level, with a wide door, grab bars, and turning space for a wheelchair. Seattle events have to include them.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty flushes and keeps odor down, a clear step up for a wedding or a company party.

On private ground, like your own yard, a driveway, or a fenced job site, you normally need no City permit for the unit itself. Everything else is worth knowing before you book.
Streets and sidewalks: Any work in the public right-of-way needs a street use permit from the transportation department. Short-term, low-impact work such as sidewalk repair runs on a maintenance permit, utility work and vehicle staging run on a utility permit, and a temporary no parking zone can be reserved separately if you need curb space held.
Special events: Your portable restroom placement has to appear on the event map that the Special Events Committee reviews and approves. The City also tells organizers not to put units directly outside a business entrance or in a high-traffic flow area, which is worth sorting out with neighbors early. For a large event needing more than ten units across more than one day, the City recommends keeping a service person on standby.
Food service: This is the rule that catches people out. City guidance says portable toilets are allowed only if handwash sinks with hot water, soap, and paper towels are provided next to the portable toilet. Restrooms for food workers must be within 200 feet of the serving location, with hot running water, and a double handwash is required, once at the restroom and once at the booth. Booth stations need a five gallon or larger gravity-flow insulated container with a spigot that locks open.
Food permits: Public Health issues the temporary food establishment permits. Either every vendor holds one, or the organizer takes a blanket permit, with the blanket application due 30 days ahead and the per-vendor packet at least 14 days ahead.
Job sites: State rules require toilets within 200 feet horizontally of all employees, internal latches on the units, and separate facilities for each sex once a mixed crew reaches 20 people.

Seattle's rules say more about placement than most cities do, which makes this easier to get right.
Set units on firm, level ground with a clear approach. State rules actually require service trucks to have a clear approach and convenient access to the toilets being serviced, so do not box a unit in behind materials or parked vehicles. Soft winter ground and steep lots both argue for a gravel or paved pad.
Keep units away from storm drains, creek mouths, and the shoreline, and back from food service. At an event, mind the neighbors: keep units off business doorways and out of the main pedestrian flow. On a job site, the 200-foot rule does the thinking for you.
State rules also set what a service visit has to include: disinfecting seats and urinals, removing the waste, recharging the tank with an odor-controlling chemical, and restocking paper and seat covers. Washington requires tepid wash water between 70 and 100 degrees at every construction site, along with soap and individual hand towels.
The waste itself stays in the public system. Seattle's own sewage, combined sewer flows included, goes to the West Point Treatment Plant by Discovery Park, which has run since 1966 and treats roughly 90 million gallons a day in dry months. Pumped waste goes somewhere else: King County runs a septage facility at the South Treatment Plant in Renton, open around the clock, for permitted haulers only, and its accepted waste list names material removed from a portable toilet.
