Find Sustainable Porta Potty
in Springfield
At Prime Dumpster, we provide porta potty rentals across Springfield, Illinois, and the Sangamon County towns around the capital. State and city construction work, contractors on the medical and university campuses, downtown street events and State Fair season, and the farm ground that starts just past the edge of town all keep units busy here.
Your cost depends on the unit, the number you take, how long you keep them, and how often a truck comes back. Below are the ranges, how Illinois expects you to size an order, which Springfield office to call about public ground, and what helps us deliver fast.
Every range above is for a standard three-day rental. Four things shape your own number in Springfield.
Rental length leads. A weekend is billed across three days, so one Saturday costs close to the same as all three. Builds that run for months shift onto monthly cycles.
Service frequency is the one Illinois pays attention to. The state does not set a unit count, but it does require that units be serviced often enough to stay sanitary and odor free, and it says plainly that the person who ordered them has to add units or increase servicing if they are not keeping up. That makes service visits part of your compliance, not just your comfort.
Timing matters more here than in most cities. August is State Fair month, and units across central Illinois get committed early. The same goes for graduation weekends and the downtown event calendar.
Then there is the site. A level pad near the curb is quick to serve. Deep mud on a spring job site, a downtown spot where the truck has to block a lane, or a long walk in from the road all add time to every visit.

Request a Quote NowIllinois takes an unusual approach. It publishes no ratio at all. Instead, it requires that an adequate number of units be provided for the number of people expected, and it names the employer, property owner or event coordinator as the person responsible for getting it right and for adding units or service if conditions slip. The practical effect is that the planning numbers below are what you work to, and the legal test is whether the units stayed sanitary.
Worth knowing if you are planning anything during the fair: the city's own State Fair permit application asks you to write down the number of outside sanitary facilities you are providing, right next to the number of people you expect. So your unit count goes on a city form before the event, which is a good reason to settle it early.
Start with our porta potty calculator, then have your account manager sanity-check the number against your hours and your crowd.
Pick by who uses it and for how long. They sit side by side on our porta potty options page.
The Standard Porta Potty is the Springfield workhorse. Toilet, urinal, paper and sanitizer, built for a crew using it every day.
The ADA-Compliant Porta Potty has a ground-level entry, wide door, grab bars and turning space. Any event open to the public needs one.
The Deluxe Flushing Porta Potty flushes, which changes how guests see it. Weddings and company events are where it earns its keep.
The Deluxe Porta Potty with Sink has the sink, soap and mirror inside. Families and food-heavy gatherings notice it immediately.
The Solar Porta Potty powers its light and fan from the sun, which suits an evening event or a site with no power run yet.
The Handwashing Station carries fresh water, soap and towels. Illinois requires soap and single-use towels as part of a proper service, so these are worth having wherever people eat.
The Restroom Trailer brings several stalls, running water and climate control, which matters in an Illinois August and again in November.
Not sure what fits? Describe the event or the crew to your account manager and they will build the mix.
On private ground, no. A unit in your yard, on a building lot, or on private parking in Springfield needs no city permit.
Streets, sidewalks and parkways: this is the one that catches people. Springfield's Right of Way Obstruction permit covers anything placed in a street, sidewalk, parkway or parking space, and the fee is worked out from how many parking meters you block. Nothing can go in until the Superintendent of Streets and the City Traffic Engineer have approved it and the fee is paid, and you cannot run past the approved window without a further written approval. The application asks exactly which features you are blocking and who is handling traffic control. The Office of Public Works is at 300 South 7th Street, Room 201, and the number is 217-789-2255.
Block parties: the city's block party guidelines want a petition, event notification forms, an events application and a right of way obstruction application, all filed with Motor Vehicle Parking in Room 203 at least 14 days ahead. You need your neighborhood association's approval plus 80 percent of residents on the block. Major thoroughfares and streets that are not stop controlled at both ends cannot be closed at all. Music has to stop by 10 p.m. and the street has to be clear by 11 p.m. Alcohol is not allowed on the street, sidewalk or any city right of way without a separate liquor license, and the city wants a $1,000,000 liability policy naming it as additional insured, with a one-day limited policy available for $25.00.
Food vendors: booths at a Springfield event need a food permit from the Sangamon County Department of Public Health, which issues mobile, special and temporary event permits and sets the handwashing requirements for the booth itself.
If you cannot tell whether your spot is city right of way or private ground, your account manager can help you work it out before the delivery is booked.
Set units on firm, level ground with a clear truck approach. Central Illinois gumbo clay holds water, so a spot that carried a loaded truck in July may not in April. Keep units clear of drainage ditches, storm inlets and creeks, and off septic fields on the rural parcels outside town.
Downtown, remember that occupying a lane or a metered space is a permitted activity with an approved time window, so coordinate the delivery with that window rather than the other way round.
A standard rental is serviced once a week, and Illinois spells out what a service visit has to include. The waste comes out, the tank is recharged with an odor-controlling solution, and the unit is restocked with tissue, single-use towels and liquid soap, with sanitizer refilled at the unit. Every interior surface then gets cleaned and sanitized, right down to the outside of the door and the handle. A unit that is defective has to be repaired or locked out of service, not just left standing.
Illinois also regulates who may do that work, and it is stricter than most states. A company that rents, services or pumps portable toilets in Illinois must hold a state portable sanitation business license, renewed by the end of June each year, and only a state-certified portable sanitation technician, or a trainee working for a licensed business, may service or pump a unit. Waste is drawn off by vacuum hose into a leak-proof tank truck with every port valved and capped.
Where it goes afterwards is also fixed by rule. Portable toilet waste may be discharged to a municipal sanitary sewer only where the hauler has written approval from that municipality, and it may never be spread on agricultural land. Your account manager can confirm your service days and how disposal is handled on your order.

Most Springfield deliveries happen within 24 to 48 hours, and three to five days of notice lets us get the mix right. Book weeks out for August, when the State Fair takes units from across central Illinois, and for graduation and festival weekends.
Winter deserves a mention too. Delivery runs year round, but frozen ruts and snow cover change what a truck can reach, so flag winter access when you book a long job.
Five things that speed up a delivery:
Prime Dumpster arranges porta potty delivery throughout Springfield and the Sangamon County communities around it, including Chatham, Sherman, Rochester, Riverton, Jerome, Leland Grove, Grandview, Auburn and New Berlin. Whether your project is downtown near the Capitol complex, out by Lake Springfield, or on farm ground along the county roads, we plan delivery, servicing and pickup around your dates.
Standard units average $199–$349 and ADA-compliant units average $200–$300. Deluxe flushing and sink units run $300–$400, and restroom trailers start at $1,500. Those are three-day figures. Unit count, rental length and service frequency set your final price, which your account manager confirms on the call.
Plan 1 unit per 50 guests across about four hours, with 15 to 20 percent more when alcohol is served. Illinois publishes no ratio, but it does require enough units to stay sanitary and puts that duty on the event organizer. Add an accessible unit and a handwashing station near food.
Federal worker-safety rules apply to private construction in Illinois: 1 toilet for a crew of 20 or fewer, then 1 toilet and 1 urinal per 40 workers. The state plan covers government workers only. Keep units near the work and book weekly service. Your account manager can size the order.
Weekly is standard, and Illinois requires servicing often enough to keep units sanitary and free of odors. Each visit pumps the waste, recharges the tank, restocks tissue, towels, soap and sanitizer, and sanitizes every interior surface. Busy events and big crews justify more visits. Your account manager sets the schedule.
No. On your own lot, yard or job site in Springfield, no permit is needed. A unit placed in a street, sidewalk, parkway or metered parking space does need a right of way obstruction permit, approved before anything is set down. Your account manager can point you to the right office.
A standard unit is sized for one person stepping up into it. An ADA unit has a level entry, a wider door, grab bars and enough floor space to turn a wheelchair. Events open to the public need accessible units in each group. A site used only by a work crew is exempt from that rule.
Standard units average $199–$349 across a three-day weekend, so a single day costs about the same as all three. Flushing units and restroom trailers cost more and go first during fair and graduation season. Your account manager will confirm your weekend price and the delivery window.
Tell us about your event or project and your zip code. We will work out the count, set service visits that keep the units right, and give you a clear price on the call.
Your Prime Dumpster account manager handles the details, from unit count and service schedule to permit contacts and delivery timing, so you can focus on your event or project.
