St. Charles, Illinois: a town steeped in history and culture that invites you to explore its many sights. From the Lincoln Monument to the Fox River Trolley Museum, this city of 36,000 has something for everyone.
The Lincoln Monument is a tribute to one of our nation’s most celebrated presidents and stands near the banks of the Fox River in downtown St. Charles. This 40-foot tall monument was sculpted by an Italian artist who used white marble from Carrara, Italy – making it one of only two monuments outside of Washington D.C., honoring Abraham Lincoln. Every year on June 17th (Lincoln’s birthday) a wreath-laying ceremony takes place at the monument with hundreds of people paying their respects.
For those looking for some fun activities, why not visit the Fox River Trolley Museum? Located just south of downtown along the riverfront, visitors can take a ride back in time as they board a vintage trolley car from 1911 and travel through five miles of the scenic countryside – or even see how engineers operate these historic artifacts up close! The museum also hosts several events throughout the year such as their annual “Trolleyfest” which draws thousands each summer. With all these historical attractions, St. Charles provides plenty of opportunities for locals and visitors alike to explore its rich cultural heritage and experience life in small-town America.
