Framing, drywall, roofing, flooring, cabinets, siding, fencing, concrete, brick and ordinary household contents all load without a problem. The limits in Clayton come from North Carolina's disposal bans and from what the Johnston County landfill will accept.
North Carolina bars a long list of items from landfill disposal, and the county sets it out plainly: used oil, yard trash, white goods, antifreeze, aluminum cans, whole scrap tires, lead-acid batteries, beverage containers covered by the state alcohol laws, motor vehicle oil filters, recyclable plastic containers with a neck narrower than the body, wooden pallets, oyster shells, discarded computer equipment including monitors and printers, and discarded televisions. Any one of them in a container can hold the load at the gate.
The landfill also turns away all liquids, fire, embers or hot ashes, hazardous or unknown wastes, and poisons, herbicides and pesticides. Asbestos is handled on its own terms and never in a standard container.
Two Town rules are worth remembering too. Tires may not go in a Town cart, and a cart found with tires inside will not be emptied until they are removed. And building materials left at the curb are treated as a special pick-up with its own charge, which is exactly the situation a container is meant to avoid.
