Winston-Salem and Forsyth County run their solid waste sites through a joint utility, and its own description is useful: the Solid Waste Division operates one landfill for municipal solid waste, another for construction and demolition debris, and two yard waste facilities.
For a construction or demolition load, the dedicated site is the Old Salisbury Road Landfill at 3336 Old Salisbury Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, on 336-727-8000. It takes construction and demolition waste only, and it is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with no Saturday hours at all.
The other option is the Hanes Mill Road Solid Waste Facility at 325 W Hanes Mill Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105, also on 336-727-8000. It runs 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, and it takes construction debris alongside residential and commercial household waste. It is permitted to receive municipal solid waste from Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin counties, so a Kernersville load qualifies.
Two practical notes from the utility's own landfill information page. Industrial process and other special waste is taken only by prior approval. And the free disposal permit the city advertises is limited to Winston-Salem single-family owners for non-commercial use, so it is not a route for a Kernersville job.
Your account manager confirms which of the two sites your container is routed to and what the gate will charge before delivery.
