A container on private property, in a driveway or a yard behind the building line, is the straightforward case in Eden and needs nothing special from the City. The code is helpfully direct about it.
Containers are permitted in commercial and industrial districts and in multi-family developments as long as the rules are met and any necessary permits are obtained. In a residential district the code bars containers generally but makes an exception for multi-family developments and, importantly for a renovation, for temporary use. That exception is what covers a roll-off on a home project.
Placement has conditions attached. Wherever possible the container goes behind the front building line of the main structure. It must not block or partly block a street, a sidewalk, a public parking area or the public right of way. And it should sit closer to the main building than to any adjoining property line or right of way.
There is a sharp edge on the right of way. If building material scrap ends up in the right of way, the City removes it immediately and bills the property owner, so keeping the load inside the container and inside the property line matters.
Call the City of Eden at 336-623-2110 with a placement question, or have your account manager speak to the Solid Waste Superintendent, who enforces the chapter, and confirm your spot before delivery.
