Standard construction and household debris loads without trouble. The limits come from the receiving facility's permit and from what the Town will not touch.
North Carolina controls disposal mainly by landfill class rather than through one statewide banned list, so the real question is which facility your load goes to. The South Wake Landfill is permitted for municipal solid waste, which covers household waste and commercial waste from businesses. A segregated construction and demolition load falls into a different class of facility in this state, so the makeup of your container decides the route.
Hazardous waste, liquids, paint, solvents, fuel and asbestos stay out of any container. Asbestos needs its own abatement work before demolition.
The Town's own exclusions are a useful guide to what should go in a container rather than a cart. Fuquay-Varina will not take dirt, masonry, rock, metal, wood, building materials, ashes, tires, electronic waste, fluorescent tubes, hazardous waste, batteries or contractor waste in a garbage cart, and its bulky pickup will not take drywall, plywood, lumber, concrete, treated wood, pallets or tires either.
Batteries and household chemicals go to a county hazardous waste site, and residents can take a limited number of mattresses to a county convenience site with proof of residency. Ask your account manager about anything you are unsure of before loading it.
