Everyday remodel and cleanout debris is fine. The limits come from Colorado law and from what the Larimer County facilities turn away at the gate.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment keeps a short list out of every landfill in the state: lead acid batteries, used oil, free liquids, waste tires, and waste electronic devices and computers. That last one covers televisions, monitors, and computers from a job site, not just from a house.
Larimer County adds its own refusals. Friable asbestos is not accepted at all, while non-friable asbestos needs a manifest. Bulk liquids, materials holding PCBs, soil contaminated with petroleum other than gasoline or diesel, and car bodies are all turned away. Drums and barrels over five gallons have to be punched open or crushed before they arrive. Ten or more tires in one load triggers a separate state registration.
Hazardous waste, paint, solvents, and fuel stay out of a standard container as well. Mattresses, couches, furniture, and appliances are generally fine, though some carry a per item charge.
When something falls in a gray area, ask your account manager before it goes in. A rejected load costs far more than a two-minute question.
