Dumpster Rental in Fort Wayne, Indiana

At Prime Dumpster, we provide roll-off dumpster rentals across Fort Wayne, Indiana, and the wider Allen County area in sizes from 10 to 40 yards. This is the second largest city in the state, with everything from century-old homes near downtown to the 1960s and 1970s subdivisions on the northeast side, so remodels, roof tear-offs, estate cleanouts and commercial construction all keep roll-off containers moving.

Four things drive your price: the size you book, what you load into it, how long you keep it, and the cost of hauling that load to a permitted landfill. Below you will find our ranges, the permit rule for a container in the street, and what Indiana will not let a landfill bury.

What Changes the Price in Fort Wayne, IN

A Fort Wayne quote is built from four parts, and none of them is complicated.

Container size comes first. Guessing low costs more than guessing high, because a second container means a second delivery and a second trip to the scale.

What you load is second. Asphalt shingles, old plaster, ceramic tile and broken concrete are all dense enough to use up the weight allowance while the container still has room at the top.

Where the load goes is third. Allen County has two landfills and a transfer station, all on the city's southwest side, so a job on the northeast side carries a longer haul than one off Interstate 69 to the south.

Street use is fourth. A container in a driveway is simple. One that reaches the traveled way needs a City permit, and your account manager can tell you which applies before you book.

What Size Dumpster Do I Need in Fort Wayne, IN?

Pick by volume, then check the weight of your material against that choice.

The 10-Yard Dumpster is small, low-sided and built for heavy material. Think broken sidewalk, brick, soil, tile, or a single bathroom gut.

The 15-Yard Dumpster covers a full garage clearing, flooring pulled from several rooms, or a small roof tear-off on a one-story house.

The 20-Yard Dumpster is the usual choice for Fort Wayne homeowners. A whole-house cleanout or a kitchen remodel fits in one without crowding the drive.

The 30-Yard Dumpster takes on major renovations, additions, and new residential construction where the debris is bulky rather than dense.

The 40-Yard Dumpster is our largest container, built for commercial construction, warehouse clear-outs and large demolition.

If you are torn between two sizes, run the job past your account manager and they will tell you which is the safer booking.

Do I Need a Permit for a Dumpster in Fort Wayne, IN?

On private property, which for most jobs means your driveway or a fenced site, the container is yours to place and no City permit comes into it.

Once any part of it sits in the traveled way, the City wants a barricade permit. Fort Wayne describes these as the permits that make sure the public is properly warned and that safe signing is in place whenever an obstruction is present in the traveled way, with public safety as the point. Both the Traffic Engineering Department and the Police Department review them.

Pricing is not published. The City says the cost depends on the classification of the street being blocked and how long the obstruction will be there, and asks applicants to call for the fee structure. That is also why you should start early rather than the day before delivery.

The Right-of-Way Department handles the application through the City's online permitting system and answers on 260-427-6155. City offices are at Citizens Square, 200 East Berry Street, and residents in Allen County can also dial 311. Tell your account manager where the container needs to go and they will point you to the right desk.

What Can You Not Put in a Dumpster in Fort Wayne, IN?

Ordinary construction and household debris is fine. The limits come from Indiana rules and from what the receiving facility will take.

Tires are the clearest example. Indiana treats a whole waste tire as its own problem: a landfill can only take one in narrow circumstances, and the state expects you to send tires to a dealer, a retreader, a permitted disposal site or a registered tire handler instead. If you are buying new tires, the shop that sells them has to accept the old ones one for one. Open dumping and open burning of tires are illegal anywhere in the state.

Chemicals stay out as well. Paint, solvents, fuel, motor oil, pesticides, pool chemicals and car batteries all need a separate route, and so does asbestos. The City's own refuse rules exclude hazardous waste, infectious waste and tires from the trash stream.

Appliances and electronics need their own handling too, and the county's hazardous waste site does not take electronics at all. Ask your account manager about anything in a gray area before it goes over the rail.

Where Your Waste Goes

Allen County keeps two landfills on the State's list of authorized operating facilities, one on Smith Road and one on Macbeth Road, with a transfer station on Ardmore Avenue. All three sit on the southwest side of the city, and all three are privately run, so the exact destination depends on the route and the material in your container.

For the things that cannot ride along, the county runs a public site. The Allen County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2260 Carroll Road takes paint, solvents, automotive fluids, pesticides and similar products from Allen County residents. It is open every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., takes cash or check only, and the number is 260-449-4433. Enter from Recovery Road off Lima Road.

A few of its rules are worth knowing before you drive out. Electronics are not accepted there. Anything brought in a garbage bag is turned away, so pack items into a sturdy carton or a plastic tote and leave them in their original labeled containers. Businesses have to call first rather than simply turning up. Your account manager can confirm where your container is headed and what the facility charges before it is delivered.

How Fast Can You Get a Dumpster in Fort Wayne, IN?

Most Fort Wayne orders can be scheduled within one to two business days, with delivery arriving in a 24 to 48 hour window. Allow longer if you need a barricade permit, since Traffic Engineering and the Police Department both review those.

Five things that keep delivery day simple:

  • Describe the load. Shingles, plaster and furniture weigh very differently, and the material decides the tonnage in your quote.
  • Call in the morning. Next-day slots fill quickly in the building season, and an early call gets you on the route.
  • Pick the spot in advance. Driveway placement avoids the permit entirely, so walk the site before you book.
  • Clear the approach. The truck needs a straight run in, no parked cars, and clearance under the mature trees common on the northeast side.
  • Call when the work ends. Your account manager can get the pickup onto the next run rather than the one after it.

Winter is the one to plan around. Frost laws, snow routes and soft ground all make placement harder from December through March, and a driveway spot is easier to keep clear than a curbside one.

Fort Wayne, IN Dumpster Questions

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Fort Wayne, IN?

A 10-yard container in Fort Wayne runs $399 to $499, and a 40-yard container runs $699 to $899, both on a five-day rental. Your material and the charge at the receiving landfill move the final figure. Your account manager confirms the included tonnage and the overage rate before delivery.

Is it cheaper to rent a dumpster or go to the dump?

Past a load or two, renting wins comfortably. The landfills are on the far side of the city from much of Fort Wayne, each visit is billed at the scale, and a pickup truck holds very little. One container takes the whole job in a single haul.

Will a couch fit in a 10-yard dumpster?

Yes, and then some. A three-seat couch uses roughly a fifth of a 10-yard container, leaving space for a mattress, a dresser and a stack of cartons. Furniture fills volume rather than weight, so you run out of room first.

When renting a dumpster, what can you not put in it?

Keep out whole tires, which Indiana restricts from landfills. Paint, solvents, fuel, motor oil, pesticides, pool chemicals, car batteries and asbestos also stay out, and the City's own rules exclude hazardous and infectious waste. Electronics and appliances need separate handling as well.

What is the cheapest dumpster I can rent in Fort Wayne, IN?

The 10-yard container starts lowest, at $399 to $499. Weight is the catch. Fill it with concrete, soil or tile and you can clear the included tonnage with the container only part full, so dense material is usually cheaper in a load by itself.

How much is it to rent a dumpster for 3 days?

Three days normally costs the same as five, because we price the container by the job rather than by the day. The weight of the load matters far more than the length of the rental. Ask your account manager what tonnage your size includes and what each extra ton costs.

What can you legally put in a dumpster?

Nearly all construction and cleanout debris: lumber, drywall, plaster, shingles, siding, flooring, cabinets, furniture, carpet and cardboard. Clean concrete, brick and soil are welcome too, and they cost less when they travel in their own load. Your account manager will check any item you are unsure about.
