Grant County has no municipal solid waste landfill of its own, so construction and cleanout debris from Marion travels to a neighboring county. The state's permitted facility list puts the nearest two at the Jay County Landfill, 5825 W CR 400 S, Portland, IN 47371, and the Wabash Valley Landfill, 316 Spring Valley Rd, Wabash, IN 46992. Indiana allows municipal landfills to take trash from homes and businesses along with construction and demolition debris, which is why a mixed remodel load can go to either.
One state rule is worth knowing before the truck arrives. Construction debris can't be shredded, crushed, or ground into something unrecognizable before disposal, so plan to load material roughly as it comes off the job.
Clean recyclables and yard waste have a closer home. The Grant County Recycling Center at 3939 South Garthwaite Road, Gas City, IN 46933 is funded by Grant County and the regional solid waste district. It's closed Monday and Friday, open Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Containers have to be rinsed and clean, and it doesn't take construction debris.
Because the destination depends on what's in the container, your account manager confirms where your load is going and what the weight terms look like before delivery.
